My daughters just been out in Edinburgh and theres Hibs fans stood outside the pubs with Hampden Park Turf in their hands.
Their fans must be having a nervous breakdown if they are as hysterical as some of ours were about one person goading an opposition player.
I'm sure you'll incur the wrath of plenty for this because it's repetitive but I do agree that that incident was absurdly over-reacted to. It's the kind of behaviour you see from players every week and we all get on with our lives. They're rarely even sent off for it and no one talks about life bans.
When a player does it to another player it's not part of a criminal offence being committed either is it? Players know if an opponent does something to them there's **** all chance they'll get away with it and the cost to that opponent would be too great for them to do anything proper. You don't have that same safety with fans on the pitch where they could disappear into the crowd again. Being on the pitch is illegal in the first place, but people are sensibly not pursued for it when they don't act like a cock whilst they're there. If they don't do something to him after acting like that, the lack of action is used as a precedent when a fan goes and acts the same way but it sparks a reaction from a player and it escalates. Could easily happen, he's done it to a big centre half who probably thought if he tries anything I can take it and then handle him, someone does it to a player who's more of a fanny the player might think it's happening whatever happens and to have any chance of not getting hurt he has to act first. What then follows is completely unpredictable.
