Should Scotland be an Independent Country?

  • Yes

  • No

Just had a bird from Skye text me there predicting 78% yes <laugh>

Cracking diddies though.

It will be more democratic, no appointed lords and proportional representation. Surely if you think it will be much the same you should at least vote for a fairest one?

I'm going to resort to name calling IDIOT!

PR is not necessarily more democratic. My experience in the Netherlands was that every election ended up as a coalition because of PR. The people got no say in if it would be a centre-left or centre-right coalition. It all came down to horse-trading between the various parties behind closed doors.

You'd certainly see no more Thatchers under a PR system - there would be ****y concessions all over the place.

Strong government being good depends very much on who you get in charge though - Singapore through a random stroke of luck got a very powerful London educated free marketer as their first PM who created a dynasty. Zimbabwe got a mental demagogue who wrecked the place. Coalitions tend to go straight down the middle with nothing controversial, which makes them the safe ****y option for the likes of Pud, Nev, Beale to support.
