Should Scotland be an Independent Country?

  • Yes

  • No

Results are only viewable after voting.
Scotland will be whatever its people want it to be. This idea that Scotland can't govern itself is stupid. Hundreds of other countries somehow manage to do it.

And how many of them are capitalist countries? Barring the nutty communist countries like North Korea, Cuba and China, the only thing close to a fair society built on democratic socialism is Scandinavia. The proposals made by Scotland's pro-independence parties aren't feasible to replicate progressive, democratic socialist countries like Denmark, Norway and Sweden. You'll be free from Westminster domination, but it's highly unlikely you'll be "free" from the right-wing capitalism that dominates most of Europe and the Anglophone. I'm not saying you can't govern yourselves, but I'm saying your way of governance will be similar to that of the rUK with our Westminster elites. Scotland will probably have "Holyrood elites" calling all the shots in Edinburgh.

isnt it even more scary for the UK?

What will THEY do when the oil runs out and Scotland to support?

Us keeping whatever oil is left for ourselves is clearly good for us and bad for England, how anyone can possibly dress it up any other way I dont know.

I don't worry about England/RUK if you leave, as far as I can tell you roughly pay your way so, given the much bigger population in RUK, if we're a little bit up or down on the deal, it ain't going to destroy us.

There is a lot of talk about oil revenue and how long that will last. The thing I wonder is, will oil be desirable in 20 years time? We are moving to "greener" alternatives and 20 years is a long time in this technological age. Will the value of oil plummet? In 20 years time will it be economical to pump oil out of the North Sea?

At least we would get to choose. That is the important thing.

No more arming people like Saddam and Gaddafi who turn round and kill our citizens.

The Haggis hazed utopia promised to them by Salmond, Sturgoen and Anglerfish has led to mass ejaculation in tartan y fronts all over the xenophobic left. They don't realise that it's all Scotch Pie in the sky. You CAN'T cut taxes and give all the junkies more cash.

Let's just hope the British Army launch a military coup on Friday and install David Starkey as devine leader.

It's the only hope to stop this lunacy!!

Gas will be moving to the magical uopia that is Scotlandia in 2018 after England votes to leave Europe and is officially declared a 3rd world state.

Aye China are performing shockingly aren't they. Cuba as well, one can only wonder what the counterfactual situation for them would have been had they not been so unreasonably embargoed for the simple fact of being Communist and that a few beeling expats find themselves stuck in Florida.

North Korea I will give you, but that's an obscene example unfit for use as a comparison to any other national situation.

So we will no longer need Gas or plastic?

You seem to be the most concerned nigel on here, fearing an eternity of Tory rule I guess.
Why is that, benefits cuts? How many kids have you got?

I've never been on benefits in my entire life you cheeky ****. I am a socialist and am resigned to a Tory dominated Westminster for eternity should Scotland leave the Union. The only hope we have is for a no vote victory resulting in a backlash against the SNP benefiting the Labour vote thus (fingers crossed) Labour may just scrape a victory in the next GE.

Having said all that, I'm actually voting for and will possibly campaign for the Green party who have become the only party with credible socialist policies. :D

I'm no expert but don't the vast majority in China and Cuba live in extreme poverty with little in the way of human rights?

Go for it, you won't here any objections from me.

However, an independent Scotland that joins the EU (f** knows why) and NATO (potentially) would have to subscribe to the neoconservative agenda of the United States and its European poodles. An independent Scotland would still get drawn into crises like the ones in Ukraine and Syria as a mode of political survival. Even Norway has been pressured into placing sanctions against Russia, and they're not even in the EU. An independent Scotland would probably have to sign up for TTIP as well. You may be slightly better off (or worse), but not by much.

The tories wont rule forever. People vote for change, just like we plan to do on Thursday.

You're married with kids = you get benefits (that I as a single childless person pay for...)

The Green party has no credible policies, they are cranks.
