The Daily Mail's going to have a field day in the run up to Glasgow 2014. You can pretty much guarantee there'll be an in depth piece comparing the "dilemna" of English competitors shaking Alec Salmond's hand to that of Berlin 1936 <doh> The daily Record of course will suggest that he makes sure he has a bottle of handwash with him for any such eventuality !

The Record hates Salmond.

Smart Arse <steam> All right - any Scottish daily which kind of supports the concept of independence and never wants to miss the opportunity to have a little dig at the English.

The only national newspaper which is soft on Yes is the Herald. The rest are very much pro-union, especially the Daily Record which is no surprise given they're part of the London-based Mirror Group. The Scotsman? They seem to hate Scotland with a passion. Their local rag, the Edinburgh Evening News, seems to exist for no other reason than to slag off and criticise anything new in Edinburgh. It's a strange mind set to be sure.

A poll in the Courier suggests 42% would be more likely to vote Yes in light of George Osborne’s cack-handed intervention in the debate. Meanwhile a Daily Record Poll shows Yes on 48% and No on 52% when undecided voters are excluded. That means just a 2% swing - the closest gap since the campaign began.

It was always going to get closer - these things usually do. Something to do with politicians being congenitally incapable of keeping their traps shut according to specially commissioned scientific research. It will be interesting to see what both sides pull out of the hat as we get nearer - from the no side my money's on a DH paper showing that in an independent Scotland life expectancy will reduce to 23

If England win the World Cup I won't care if the whole of Great Britain sinks beneath the waves a fortnight later. I'll still die happy.

The inevitable penalty pumpfest and subsequent ladylike tears of the England team is the best part of International football tournaments

Reduce?

So, an increased life expectancy for the Central Belt.

Now that the traditional press coverage of the Tartan Army taking an early bath in the town fountains is a thing of the past, you mean?
