A good omen for the week-end Southampton 2 Manchester United 1 - Under 18's and that man Ryan Seager with both goals.
I don't know if it's been mentioned, but we're top of our U18 group and second in our U21/Reserve group, behind United. Doesn't mean a lot but it's nice to see how our kids match up against others.
Actually I would say it does mean quite a bit that our 18's and 21's are doing so well. These are top tier academies we are playing this year. For me it means we have some future first team players coming and they are looking strong against other team's future first team. It also says something about our coaching setup as well.
I think our academies are more about spotting individuals than doing well as a team. For example, a crop of youngsters of all future Championship players will be better than a crop of players who will all establish themselves at different tiers of English football, including the Premier League. The former may have a better group of youngsters, yet the latter contains individuals who will cut it at where we aspire to be and remain.
This also doesn't mean a lot, but I notice that Robbie Savage was asked the question as to who had the best Academies in UK football, and he instantly put forward ManU [would be a surprise if a lazy pundit didn't mention that easy candidate], but also Saints. Now it's probably true that the word is out about the Southampton Academy, but football people can be an awfully conservative lot, and the fact that Saints were mentioned in the same breath was quite surprising.
Man U have probably the most productive accademy in the last 20 years, if you look at the value of thier home grown players over the last 20 years it truely is mind boggling
Heard Ramirez is out injured tomorrow, however I'm not sure this is true so take with a HUGE pinch of salt!!
apparently a Uruguayan journalist has written an article saying he will miss Uruguay's matches against Argentina and Bolivia? can anyone find it?
Came back from uni to see this one really looking forward to seeing gaston, so really hope this injury rumour is not true (not believing it atm)
Balls, have'nt bothered translating it but i figured it is probably confirming it Also worth a shout, he may have faked an injury to withdraw from the internationals?, i seem to remember Bale did the same thing in the summer.
