depending on who we're playing - lallana, cork, morgan/hammond, puncheon (really impressed me in his comeback, looked bright in every game)
I think Cork was MOTM last Saturday and has been one of most consistent signings bar hoover. Burnely fans thought Guly was our best player looking at their boards last sat. I thought Spider was very good at Birmingham and is solid in the middle and played well at West Ham. Lallana is back scoring goals. What do you want??? So all in all if I have to disagree with your opinion on our midfield massively.
Yeah agree with you on Puncheon has been awesome looked a threat everytime he has played. My line up would be Davis Harding-- Fonte-- Jos-- Fox Punch-- Hammond--Chaplow-- Lallana Lee-- Lambert Subs Sharp, Cork, Spider, Guly, Martin
I think I'd like to see Stephens at RB if Richardson and Butterfield are out, Harding got himself in all sorts of trouble in the Leicester game on the wrong side. Having said that I've never seen him play so have no idea how good is, but from hearing about him it sounds like could be a viable option?
thinking about it though, there could be a couple of changes to the team on saturday as im sure that game on tuesday must of taken a lot out of the boys. just look at everton beating man ****ty last week in midweek but barely being able to snatch a draw at the weekend against wigan as the midweek game took a lot out of them. so maybe cork and lallana on the bench? just an idea anyway.
Reading this thread just makes me glad I'm not Nigel. The back four virtually pick themselves and strikers are Lambert + 1, but midfield??
Punch to start as he desrves it with performances of late and looks hungry. Sharp up front, needs that 'proper' goal to excercise ghost of west Ham! Harding left back........makes me think of Leicester 3-0 Saints Sharp, Lallana, Lee (as sub) Oh, rest of the side as it was.
from solent's twitter Those #Saintsfc fans asking about Richardson, NA was asked who wasn't available for Sat, and Seaborne/Butterfield were the answers
If Frazer doesn't play I would be tempted to start with Punch on the right. He is quicker and does seem to have more of a work ethic now.
Hopefully Frazer is fit, but if not then I'd be tempted to go back and give Cork another go. Yes I know it didn't exactly go to plan against Forest, but that was one game and quite some time ago as well. Harding isn't a RB, and I'm not sure it's the right time to be throwing Stephens in. Plus, it frees up a spot in midfied (or on the bench) for Chaplow to return. That aside, same XI once again please Nigel.
If it was me, I would play: Davis Stephens Fonte Hooiveld Fox Puncheon Schneiderlin Cork Lallana Lambert Sharp Subs: Martin, Hammond, Guly, Connolly, Lee What I think Adkins will go with: Davis Harding Fonte Hooiveld Fox Guly Hammond Cork Lallana Lambert Connolly Subs: Martin, Schneiderlin, Puncheon, Sharp, Lee
Frazer made him look good vs burnley. But he deserves to be dropped as he was awful against west ham and has been in a couple of other games. You can't get away with bad games in the squad that we have. We have SDR and Puncheon on the right who are much better. They deserve a chance. As many people have said puncheon played well against west ham when he came on .
The thing with Guly though, is that whenever he has a poor game and people start talk about dropping him, he invariably comes straight back with a cracking performance. If he doesn't score himself, then he'll set one up. I'm expecting one of those performances from Guly again on Saturday. Might even put money on him grabbing a couple.
Guly is oft superb at St Mary's, yet away from home he lacks true physicality and presence, with the game passing him by a fair bit.
