The BBC (although via The Mail) are reporting that Liverpool didn't increase their overall bid for Coutinho they're just offering more money up front. Assuming we haven't moved on to other targets, this could still happen.

It really wouldn't surprise me if we didn't sign anyone else this window. The team is performing well at the moment and we are in a good position to stay up. The key position before the window opened was CB and we've signed Forren so that may be our only business in Jan. Also with the changing of the managers the hierarchy may feel that bringing in another player or two may disrupt things even further and send us on a bad run.

That being said if the right player comes along at the right price then I think we would go in for him, just don't think we will be desperate to bring players in.

So you're happy with the back up we have on the wings? Because I'm not, we have hardly any cover at all. Which we have seen since Lallana has been out.

Umm where did I say that?

Thought CB was more critical than wing before the window, we've addressed that. Agree the back up isn't great but in reality we are not going to be signing players to become back ups in January, that is more of a summer job, and as I mentioned earlier it may be that they don't want to disrupt the first team too much at this moment in time.

Hee hee. I am just loving how desperate some Liverpool fans are to beat mighty Southampton to a signing.... boy they've dropped.

Desperate?, considering we're both in for the same player it makes sense to keep both sets of supporters informed.

But you've got your own warped take on the subject.<laugh>

Not sure whether Liverpools focus has dropped or ours has been raised.
Possibly something between the two.
My only issue with going after the same European based players as Liverpool is that they do not have a good record of buying quality
Still happy days!

I didn't say you did, as for disrupting the team I'm sure if we do sign some one Saints will make sure he will intergrate with the squad with out hassle.

We have have had several journo's that are close to the club that have said they have doubts Saints had even bid. It wouldn't surprise me if Inter made up we bid to get Liverpool to pay more.

Mauro Zarate is now 'very close' to a move to the Premier League with either Sunderland or Southampton:
