Jose and Ryan talking about how Saints players discussed Leicester and knew that it could have been us (you are not alone there, lads). We are good enough to have done better than we did in what was a turbulent year for the supposed top clubs. Jose suggests that signing a few more players could be crucial. I think we are on the cusp...next season could be our best yet....just need good ol' consistency and a couple of excellent players to add extra sparkle whilst keeping our best players*.

*And I think we will...the fact we have started signing on longer contracts shows the board (ie. Les Reed) have had enough of instability. I don't think we will lose more than Victor and Pelle.

Just been on Saintsweb (yes,I know, but I'm deranged by being poorly....have woman-flu...that's like man-flu but with real symptoms<laugh>) and they have a poster who thinks we should sell players when they have two years on their contract to maximise money. Why not go the whole hog and sell them before we sign them! Some people seem to believe in the market stall method of football management...all about the money, never about the game. It would be different if we were a struggling lower division side where money keeps you afloat, but we are not. Sometimes it is worth taking a financial hit for the good of the team...if you really need a player in one position, it may be worth risking him going on a free...not the ideal scenario, but one that may be necessary in certain circumstances. Selling at a good price is good business sense, but sometimes football needs can over rule it.

Business will over ride football with Saints....we have seen the results of when it doesn't like Pompey
We have an outstanding debt of just over £60m with KL that needs servicing and repaying over the coming years so I see absolutely no way that we will go out on a limb and start giving away players on frees when their contracts run out and if a silly offer comes in for anyone it will be considered.
My hope is that this season we will not just look to replace those that leave using those funds brought in from the sale but an additional 2-3 good quality (preferably with Prem experience) in positions that need supporting......attacking/goal scoring midfielder and centre back (Jose's long term replacement)
