I don’t disagree about players on the post, the back post especially. But it is definitely something you rarely see anymore, and there must be some stats/logic to it that means it isn’t as common.
A lot of people hate zonal marking but it is far more common than man now as another example
Yeah that’s why I’m interested in their answer. Also not ever putting anyone outside the box really bugs me. Hardly any clubs do it but when they do (like qpr did) it’s a no brainer. It gives you a chance to break quickly whilst taking congestion out of the area. Drives me mad!

You're the ref mate but I wouldn't think that would be offside .....but In any case I've never seen that.
Can't think of a single instance where I've seen that....can you? Even if it's theoretically possible I'd still prefer to see the defenders defending the goal just can't imagine a player thinking "mustn't flick this on as someone may be in an offside position.
I meant if an attacker heads it, keeper saves it and it falls to another player who scores. If he's ahead of the the player who headed it he would be offside if there's no one on the posts.
I can’t give you a specific example but I am sure I have seen times when a player has flicked the ball on at the near post and the players knee or something was offside when the player at the back post puts it in.
Anyway as I said how often it happens vs how often player clears ball off line is something I’m sure the stats guys at professional clubs have analysed. Maybe having player off post and in box to block runners/clear the ball has a higher % effectiveness to them being on the line as well, I’m sure they look at lots of things we football dummies don’t consider
