I just think you have to actually try pretty hard to get annoyed at Semmens after that. I mean, yeah, it maybe wasn't his best performance, but let's ignore ALL THE OTHER TIMES when he's come across incredibly well, and all the very good work he's done to keep this club going, just because he didn't answer a question immaculately.

People are getting annoyed with the way he answered the fan who goes to all the game by zeroing in on his response that he also goes to all the games and misses his kids - it's clumsy, yes. But the response that he gets paid to go, arggh let's get angry, is just wilfully missing THE WHOLE POINT of his answer, which was that everyone gets equally pissed off when we perform badly, and that includes the management and ownership of the club. It was just badly worded, but it's a live event ffs. And I mean, really, really wilfully missing it. As in it must actually take an effort to be that angry!

I'm just bored of people who are actually making an effort to try and be angry at everything, anything and everyone.
Also do we thinks the MDs of every premier club go to every game? Perhaps they do

That last paragraph seems to be the status quo. This eternal loop of anger at individuals needs not being met needing to be verified by others. Odd world we live in. Kae Tempest calls it the ‘palace of me’ I think.

I am extremely upset that the MD of the club didn’t say exactly what I wanted him to say in exactly the way I think he should have said it.

Because I can only think in binary terms, and can’t countenance the fact that it might just have been a slightly clumsy response, that one has to give a bit of leeway when people are speaking live and answering questions they may not be precisely prepared for, I am going to rage about how awful the club is on Twitter.

This is actually helpful for me, because for reasons beyond my personally limited intellect, I am looking for any reason to moan about the club. I believe if I use the [HASHTAG]#saintsfc[/HASHTAG] hashtag, it will gain me more likes and retweets, and I can find likeminded people who will reinforce my binary views.

Semmens clearly hates all fans, and Ralph is clueless.

Yours,
Angry Saints Fan (please follow me on Instagram).
Good to see your level headed and thoughtful post. Well done in leaving a critique of the new owners for a follow up.

The club management are in a no win situation with fans forums. They are almost forced into them by fans who complain about being "kept in the dark" or "nobody tells us anything" and then throw a strop when they are told something they don't like. My impression of Semmens is that far from being a "defensive arrogant twat" or "not sure Semmens should be allowed to speak publicly" is the complete opposite. In fact I think he is a real asset to the club. I also think he tries to be as open and and honest as he can be for a person in his position but that then leads to these futile fans forums. He is a victim of trying to do the right thing.

Platforms like twitter and so on are a godsend to the ****wits who shout the loudest. That may sound condescending but **** it, I'm tired of listening to the views of people who are as thick as mince and think they speak for us all.

Comments on this board last night. But just to be clear, not who I was referring to as ****wits.

I’ve managed to catch up with the forum now and I agree entirely with this. I cannot possibly see how anything Martin Semmens said could cause offence to anyone unless they were deliberately wanting to be offended.

After decades of watching my club being mismanaged by the likes of Lowe and Wilde, and more recently by Reed and Krueger, the current board are beginning to prove their worth, especially now they have some serious financial backing which didn’t appear from Gao.

Exactly. It’s frankly pathetic, and is it any wonder there’s sometimes frustration toward the fans when they act like that.

Someone made a good point to me about angry football fans several years ago.

She opined that she suspects many of them are in jobs where they have no control. Once a week they can forget that they can't affect their working lives, they can forget their terrible marriages, money worries and horrible kids and have permission to shout and rant for 90 minutes about how much better they could do than the idiots on the pitch, the utter fool on the touchline guiding them, the pricks in the director's box who have more money than sense and (obviously) the ****er in the black. Football is their safe outlet (who can prove they couldn't do better than that lot?) for rages against other aspects of their lives.

I've always considered that there may be something in what she said.

Vin

Was that the exact order it went? Or was it that his contract was expiring and he had an offer on the table from Liverpool and so he was “released” and then joined them

I don’t know for certain but I know which sounds more likely

I mean, technically, Brentford released Christian Eriksen and he then joined Man United. He appeared on their end of season release list and everything.

He was signed after a successful trial to add “depth to their B team”, doesn’t sound like somebody they are signing for any other reason than they were short in the position.

There is indeed but it was always the bastard in the black in songs I sang.

Which is kind of what I expected - a step up more in line with one the average person would expect - a higher profile “company” and a pay rise. Not an indication he is premier league standard. Especially not at right back which isn’t his main position

Gosh there are times I get really down, notably about not having a partner and kids. It’s always sobering to get a reminder that some people have that and things are not necessarily rosey as a result

Because whilst it is not everyone I can believe there are a fair proportion among the average football fans who fit that description above

The thing is Gregg we all support Saints. We have chosen a life of misery.

The timing of it is just too convenient. The day after the fans forum. It's pure clickbait and it's absolute trash even by their hideously low standards. The club should ban all Mail reporters from the stadium and training ground with immediate effect. ****s.

I refuse to post it. It's pretty much a whole article undermining Ralph with players going behind his back to the board. It's ****ing outrageous quite frankly.
I have found it. It is just about as vague as you could get. You could easily write such an article with no actual sources

Timing also seems deliberate because by accounts I have seen Ralph came across well at the forum last night

i also find it amazing that some people are so desperate for this to be true and it validate their opinion that they are seizing upon this when it comes from…the daily mail. Yikes

It could be true but I’d want a little more than the daily mail to tell me so.

Also football journalists have a very interesting definition of “stars”. For all we know it could be Walcott, McCarthy and Jack Stephens who are doing the complaining.
