Just to be clear, all i'm saying is Shane and Yoshi are examples of players that imo are at the highest level they could be and in Yoshi's case maybe he is above where he should be. Which is why these players spend a large period of their careers at the same club. (not entirely through loyalty just that there will not be a better offer)
We also have players that use us as a stepping stone and move on, which i have no problem with as long as its done the right way.
Then we have players like JWP, and Bertrand who could play at a level above but seem happy enough to ply their trade at Saints.
Every club in the world will be the same.
My point with Shane and Yoshi was only suggesting that some fans will give average players legend status when maybe it's not really deserved. For me Bertrand is more a club legend than either of them as he has stayed when he could go and play for a better team.

I think this explains your point more clearly. It takes all sorts to make a team, I'm happy we don't have a team of galacticos, though one or two would be fine :emoticon-0105-wink:
This isn't to say I want us to have worse players, but seeing Shane getting to where he is through sheer force of character and hard work is kind of inspiring ... as long as there's others around him banging in the goals

I'm with you on players staying and leaving. Loyalty, inability, lack of opportunity? Ego, genius, Job progression? There are all sorts of reasons players, leave and stay, we should only expect them to do their best when they're with us and treat us with respect if they leave

I think we sometimes share 'legends' and sometimes don't as they represent something that we admire and we sometimes admire different stuff
MLT is widely shared because of his ability and the fact he stayed and is still here
I think Yoshi, Shane, Steve Davis, Kelvin Davis are 'legends' to some of us for different reasons not completely related to football genius, but more related to character and I think it's also important to note that these guys provide great role models behind the scenes to the team, club and youth players

Oh, and on the matter of Football Genius, is this man a legend or not?

Shall we just remind ourselves of some of the other attacking players we've signed...

Dani Osvaldo. £13m. 13 games, 3 goals. Punched the team captain, disruptive, wants to be Jack Sparrow.

Manolo Gabbiadini. £15m. 60 games, 12 goals. Had his moments, but generally wanted it on a plate. A bit trampy.

Mohammed Elyounoussi. £16m. 19 games, 0 goals. Not even a footballer.

Juanmi. £5m. 19 games, 0 goals. Can't remember a single thing that he did.

<laugh>
These made I larf

I remember the feeling of optimism every time Juanmi came on from the bench ...

... and then ...

...

... No, I've got nothing

You could be right, Just amuses me how fans put Yoshi up as something special but don'y treat Ryan the same, in fact some even slate him.

Ryan deserved getting slated because he lost his way at one point. It was possibly to do with a move that didn't materialise but whatever it was he looked as if he couldn't be bothered. Thankfully, he now seems to be back on track.
I also know that at one time when he was captain, he was criticising the club to the apprentices. Hardly the act of a club legend.

Did he really make 19 appearances? If it was a quiz, I would have said 4, just to give him the benefit of the doubt.

Also, a bit rough on Che I feel. Some of those appearances have been 5 minutes at the end and he's looked prominsing on occasion

If Ings scores just 1 more, he'll have as many PL goals this season as Austin managed in over 3 seasons. In his comeback, Ings has demonstrated the kind of extreme dedication that might have saved Austin's career from completely nose diving ......I think Charlie is very bitter.....shame as he is a pretty decent fella until he has a drink or 10 too many.
