We would have been mad not to put a clause in, we had them bent over a barrel with the whole tapping up thing.

However, based on some of Les Reed' s work, he probably inserted a clause that we have to pay them 10%

Be very careful what you say Billy. Should it come to court don't ask me for a character reference.

Not sure what you are referring to, I'd imagine he was well thought of in the St Mary's corridors following the biggest transfer in our club history.

And I was relying on you being a solid character reference - I always thought we got on so well on here. Maybe I got that bit wrong. Did i? How could I get those messages mixed up so bad?

Damn.

I feel like I need somebody to hug now <badger>

Quote from Alan Pardew talking about his time at Saints.

''I went to Southampton, which had the greatest owner that there could ever have been. Unfortunately, he was poorly, and Nicola Cortese was the chief executive who ran the football club''.

NC never liked him.............and clearly he knew that.
Yes, Pardew admitted that.

''He was a fiery character, and I have no problem saying that we had some real clashes.
We had an unbelievable team. We didn’t quite make the play-offs, and the next year, Cortese – I could tell I’d lost him somewhere along those clashes – he was a young chief executive and I was hungry to get back to the Premier League; it was too much going on''.

I thought Nic got it wrong also. But history shows him to be right.
The thing we will never know is would we have got promotion under Pardew? We had a good team, so I think we would have certainly got out of League 1 the next season, but after that who knows. Doesn't help if the relationship between Chief Exec and the manager breaks down, so under those circumstances it's the manager who leaves.
