Don’t know if anyone’s caught any of that boot dreams programme, where ex academy players try to reboot their career. Had it on the background and saw Jake Flannigan on the show, came across really well. Another one of our academy players who’s prospects were destroyed or seriously damaged by injury, seems to be a very common story.
It's why I can't at all begrudge young players who use their early-career leverage to get moves: a lot of talented Academy players have their careers ended by injury. It's easy to scoff that a 17 year old is moving to get 500k/year in salary and bemoan their lack of patience, but that is life-changing money and there is zero guarantee it'll be available if, like so many others, they suffer a major injury. Jimmy-Jay Morgan shredded his knee days after joining Chelsea; if it were days before, he's looking at a far different career arc, and one that may not ever involve high-level professional football.
Give us something to cheer about then lads. We'll be behind you with positivity if you give us something to cheer about (see first games of this season)
The atmosphere was excellent at the start of the season. It has been awful since we started gifting every match to the opposition. This is a pretty basic chicken and egg situation.
Poor darlings. Turns out if you lose almost every home game for 2 years, the fans will be on your back. Now shut the **** up and earn your extortionate wages.
