Why can't Redmond run at players like that in a proper match, instead of passing backwards all the time?
writeup of the match: https://southamptonfc.com/news/2017-10-05/southampton-fulham-friendly-report Yes, Rui Fonte is Jose's brother.
Yes, yes he was. But in the here and the now that we measure it on, he's not ... don't know why he's gone backwards.
Confidence is BIG thing. In fact, aside from the basic PL skills and tactics, it's the biggest thing.
Fair enough. I don't think he has that problem. The team as a whole are beginning to lack belief in that they will score. That, I can see.
Specifically I think Nathan does lack the required confidence to do his job at the moment He needs to be taking people on and is doing this all too rarely He needs the confidence for this to fail at times because if he can't handle that he won't try it Watching England's insipid performance last night and registering the fans disaffection it occurs to me that playing for England can't be fun because expectations are always higher than our abilities and the fans let that be known. It affects the players I say this because I think this is happening at St Marys and I think the players sense it and it affects them all to an extent. I think it makes them nervous and overly cautious and that adds to our lack of general ability through the team to score more goals No-one wants to **** it up individually, so they end up doing it as a team What's happenend to the Northam and Itchen near the away fans? They used to sing their hearts out
Badly need Jan to come. Alcacer and Vietto wanted. ( don't know if both or just one of two). Some of the players need more competition.
Those two just seem like more of what we've already got to me. Would rather we went for an attacking midfielder if pellegrino wants to use that kind of striker.
I agree, only thinking I can see is that they want to use Vietto in a deeper role as he played behind the striker a fair bit at Sevilla, and has played there for Atletico. As I've mentioned before though he strikes me as another Juanmi, I just can't see him adapting to the PL. I'm not against either of them signing really, as they both have talent and for where we are would probably be useful additions, but if they were the only addition(s) then I doubt it would change much about our goal scoring ability. If I were Les Reed or on the scouting team I would be going all out for Ziyech, he probably has better suitors but he would be top of my list to start off with.
Need a hold up striker for me or maybe two. Then play Gabbiadini just behind one of them. But we seem to be obsessed with short skilled guys.
Indeed. We don't have the ability to walk the ball through a good compact defence. Not many teams do. And Saints themselves still want to play the wide expansive game where crosses are a major feature of the play. But try as he might, Gabbiadini is not the person to get on the end of crosses with his head, and Long cannot bully CBs sufficiently. Which leads one to wonder why Austin doesn't get played as lead striker. Puel played him as that, until he became injured, and although he was less effective than Pelle or Lambert, because he's not a natural hold-up striker, he was OK at it. Is Austin's reputation for injury actually showing itself, in the sense that he can't be a starting striker.?
