http://www.dailyecho.co.uk/sport/sa...se_out_to_fight_for_his_Saints_place/?ref=rss JWP talking about his need to work hard to get back into the team and earn international recognition again. This is a pivotal time for him....he was a young talented player in the right team earlier in his career....still young, but has to step up now. He is a player that doesn't shine out like a star that you write on the team sheet straight away. He has a talent for dead ball situations, but, unlike Beckham for example, he doesn't make enough impact from these skills for his limitations to be overlooked. Or perhaps we don't have the team or style to benefit from him so much. Difficult time for him internationally. Has played and captained the U21s for some time, but is now no longer eligible. To be frank, if he doesn't get selected for the senior side by Southgate (who thinks highly of him), he'll never get selected by anyone. Such a hardworking and sensible lad, but he has to find a way to work harder to make his skills more effective if he doesn't want his career to stall.
Made worse by Southgate picking young Harry Winks who sits on the Spurs bench over him who has significant international experience and lots of first team time under his belt
Devil's advocate here....perhaps Southgate sees something in Winks (who I know nothing about) that is worth looking at/developing, whereas he doesn't need Prowsie and knows all he wants to know. No point in picking a player like JWP if you know that he has no place in your vision of the team and you will never play him. And I speak as one who is a fan of James....Mauricio has looked at him and played him, but now appears to have dropped him as a regular. A crucial time for the player.
Yeah Southgate probably knows more about JWP than Pellegrino does and rates Winks higher. I have only seen Winks a handful of times and he has looked good, but not stand out good. JWP biggest attribute in my view is his level headedness and intelligence, could be a reason he was chosen as captain of u21s as he seems mature beyond his years, not because Southgate massively rated him as a player.

Being away I hadn't seen Maya's goal...shame it didn't gain us anything. Had to vote for that, but the other 2 goals also good. All goals are good really. I had a dream that one day all 3 goals would be in the EPL.

Arsenal will sell forward Theo Walcott and playmaker Mesut Ozil, both 28, in January. Walcott is set to rejoin former club Southampton. (Daily Express)
Interesting, but we've heard such rumours before whenever one of our ex-players becomes available. The media always seem to link players to ex-clubs. Has to happen sometime I suppose.
Talking of ex players I thought Liverpool invested really well with a cool £40m on AOC. Since joining and particularly against Slovenia he looks a real snip at that fee
