The logic still doesn't make sense, why can we sell one and keep one, yet not keep them both?

Both together aren't good enough, sell one and get a better cb and it's improved. It means we will only have one of either Yoshida and Hooiveld as back up rather then them both.

Everton also aren't a top 4 side. Today they're probably the smallest of 1990's Big Five.

Chelsea and Man City spent the most in the 2 or 3 seasons where they were breaking into the top group of clubs, paying big transfer fees and wages to convince players to join them ahead of sides that were already established at the very top of the table. I would think we'd have to do the same if we wanted to break into the Champions League spots.

Why would they think that an ambitious club at a critical part of the season would part with any of their important players? Perhaps Liverpool would like to sell Suarez...or ManU part with Rooney. The media have just decided that because Luke would like first team football (unlike every other footballer apparently) it must be the only reason he is not seeking a move.<steam> I don't think he will leave in the summer either...if we build them a club, they will stay.

I don't follow the argument of keeping players because they are happy to be understudies. I want top players for all positions fighting to get in the team. No point in an understudy that we all hope won't play. On that basis: Dear Father Christmas, All I want for Christmas is a GK. Thank you, Fran.

I agree, I think the squad we have now is the one we will go with for the next few seasons. It's a good mix of young players and experienced players that have a play style they're comfortable with. The partnerships that have developed this season certainly don't need breaking up.

This is deja vu time. The squad will need improving and anyone who hasn't quite understood the am options of our chairman ... Well I give up, you'll never understand.

We are 9th in the league right now and roughly where I think we'll finish. Mr Cortese wants better which me as better players (25, not the 11) and so he will continue to do that.

I'd also add that even the best team in the world needs freshening up. Standing still in life doesn't work; you move forward or sink.

On a side note, does anyone genuinely believe we could get In to the top four ? I can see possibly 5/6th but I'd say there's little chance of a top four finish

Oh come on Olly. This post made me spit my tea out. The first post I reply to says we don't need to improve the squad and the next one says we are not good enough for top 4. There, you've answered your own point. While we are not good enough for top 4, NC will want to improve the squad. I'm not saying we will get there, but I am saying that is his target.

Didn't they spend 5-7m just to get Lukaku on loan? They may not have any big, headline grabbing fees but they are spending a lot on salaries and loan fees. A false economy I feel.

They also spent £14m getting Fellaini in. Ok they turned that into a profit but splashed in the first instance.

Sunday People understands that Chelsea are in pole position to land Southampton full-back Luke Shaw.
The Blues see the youngster as an ideal long-term replacement for Ashley Cole, and they are expected to test the Saints’ resolve with a January bid.
And while the player himself is interested in joining Chelsea, he will only move to Stamford Bridge is he is guaranteed first team football.
With other England’s top clubs keeping close tabs on Shaw, the youngster wants to ensure he makes the right choice, although a move to Stamford Bridge would probably give him the best chance of regular playing time.
Given that Ashley Cole is no longer in Jose Mourinho’s first team plans and Cesar Azpilicueta has not really impressed in left-back position, chances are Shaw would have no problems nailing down a regular starting berth.
Despite his fragile age, the 18-year-old has already featured in 39 Premier League fixtures, although he has yet to register his first goal.

No, I'm saying there's no point aiming for the top four because any realist knows it's impossible to break into. Man City and Chelsea have spent over £500,000.00 each to get in there. It's just not possible for us.
