Sam G started, didn't do a lot in the first half and was quickly subbed off after a couple of minutes of the second half, presumably with a problem of some sort.
The competition starts with a four team group stage...saints have won 1 lost 1. Will be interesting to see if the competition continues with the current format. Attendances are definitely down, even from a relatively low bar for the early rounds, but I would suspect the income from the premier league/academy sides is probably more than adequately compensating lower league sides for the loss of ticket sales and thus far no academy teams have gone close to the latter stages

A Q/F against a League One Nigel Clough team beckoning for Saints?....*shudders* Great to see Jake making an impression there, I personally wanted him to stay here instead of Davo for this season. but the experience looks like it is doing him good.
Far better than the experience of being at Saints at the moment. If we feel crud, I can only imagine what it's like being a Saints player. Their only saving grace is that, unlike us, the players aren't stuck here for eternity.
Must be even more frustrating for the likes of Targett and Gallagher who have been played and appreciated at other clubs, just to be brought back here with the promise* of playing and then barely getting even a sniff of game time. *I'm sure they wern't promised game time, but must have been told that they were wanted and valued and would get the chance to prove themselves.
I feel for JWP...he's been a mainstay here for years, now apparently virtually unwanted. He will probably have to leave for his career's sake.
