That’s a little like saying MP1 is **** as he only played Kane by chance...

It was TIm Sherwood who gave Kane a chance in the first team. By the time Poch arrived at Spurs, Kane had already proven himself good enough to be playing ahead of Soldado.

Not how I recall it, but maybe your right. I seem to recall Kane played in Europa games, then kept scoring, so played in the league. And kept scoring. The J Rod got injured, and Kane stayed and didn’t come to us. And we stopped scoring.

IIRC at the end of Sherwoods season at Spurs he promoted Kane who went on and scored in every game he played. Poch came in that summer and gave Kane the Europa League gig, where he carried on scoring and earned his spot as Spurs #1 striker.

Ok, can you prove it? Or, let’s flip this. It’s not MP2’s fault, it’s the players... he only picks them. Of course we can’t say that but equally it’s unfair to say it the other way.

I’m playing devils advocate here and only because I don’t think it’s rigjt to blame everything g on be fella and he must be given credit for the few things he has right

I’ll say again, in case people missed it, I’m not saying this because i rate Pellegrino. Right now I think he is out of his depth.
I blame both. The squad is mediocre, generally they don’t appear to be performing as they should (for an lower mid table squad) and the manager is generally very poor.

I don’t think for one minute that when we sack MP2 we will shoot up the league but he clearly isn’t helping them perform/getting the most out of them.
We can’t sack the majority of the team sadly.

Was somewhere in between. Sherwood brought him into the lineup late in the year, and he did score in three consecutive matches (before finishing out the year without scoring in his last three). Worth noting that he wasn't being played alone...he was alongside Adebayor, who was also scoring for fun, and playing against a soft close to their schedule. As such there were still significant doubts that he was capable of playing up top by himself, and thus Poch opened proceedings with Adebayor as a lone striker.

At the time that Kane started banging them in the following season in Europey, he wasn't even featuring in their squad some nights, and making cameos when he did. Fans started to get really quite vocal about it, and Kane scored a last-gasp winner against Villa, which resulted in Poch giving him a chance in the starting lineup, after which he scored roughly all the goals.

Ok here's my thoughts on us signing Theo. Yes £20M-£30M is expensive, but what is the cost of being relegated? What I saw of the Forest game was, yes he did look out of sorts, but he still looked classy, in what he did create. I believe Walcott would be a great signing for us, and a breath of fresh air in the squad. He's only 28, and a current England international.

The question is whether Theo is actually the best means to avoid relegation. If he is, sign him up. If there are other uses of 30m that provide a better chance, don't. Because this is really a zero-sum equation: we're only going to spend so much in January, and from what Ralph and friends have stated, 30m is at least a majority and possibly all of it.

The thing that concerns me, is the squad needs freshing up. It's ok with Ralph saying, we only have £30M to spend, but nowadays, thats the cost of 1decent player! Surely Southampton football club, can afford to spend more than $30M! Perhaps I am wrong, but I fear we will sign 2nd rate players, who may, or may not save us. Problem is, they are cheaper for a reason! When we signed Egil, Pahars etc, they where bargains. Look at Chris Wood for instance, a Championship player, who Burnley paid £12M for!

You can still get highly talented players without spending 30m apiece...you just aren't going to get ones playing regularly in the Premier League.

We absolutely need a revitalization of the squad, though, and that's going to mean spending real sums of money. Batshuayi or Dembele are the sort that fit our wheelhouse: players who have been demonstrably good but are available at below market price for one reason or another. Or a creative player like Alireza Jahanbakhsh (who I think we were linked to previously) in Holland, a guy playing in a small enough pond that he'd be available to us, but with a good track record of success and evident talent.

They're gambles, but the hallowed Established Premier League Player is often a gamble, too. How often have we seen well-regarded players flop at teams that weren't set up to cater to their skillsets?

I thought we were talking about who gets the credit for Pierre but anyway.... back to Theo

Theo is obviously talented....it could be that he needs a change at this time in his career. He could be better than he is. There has been a cloud over him for some time that he is moving on and under appreciated. Could be good for him to start again in a club where the fans will have some affection for him and give him a small bit of leeway.

P.s. still don't think it will happen.
