Actually a lot Of deals are not near the total.

Two quick examples:

Theo Walcott £10m; £5m upfront
Gareth Bale £12m; £6m upfront.

With very young players, sure. I'll happily admit it if I'm wrong, but I can't remember seeing deals for in-prime-or-later players heavily weighted toward incentives, and Theo's at the back end of his prime now.

Dejan Lovren: £20m and £70m if he turned out to be actually any good.

.

Ok I’m Just trying to cheer us up :)

Anyway, my 50:50 deal was tongue in cheek as I said.

No worries. My concern is mainly that we're going to spend much of the transfer window kicking the tires on Walcott; if they're asking 30 and we're highly resistant to spending above 20, as an example, we can't really afford to spend three weeks hoping they'll move off their valuation in a big way. Unless we're willing to come close to that valuation and up our intended spending to ensure that aren't leaving holes unfilled, we have to move to different targets.

The Daily Star (yes I know) is reporting that Arsenal won't sell TW for less than £30m, personally I really don't think he is worth any where near that figure due to his injury record and I seriously doubt his disire to play at the top level and not just sit on his backside and rack in the wages

Theo's agent has said he'd be interested in a move to Italy...so that is probably that ...if there was even a serious chance in the first place. Or it could be an agent trying to speed things up.

My fear is that this may have delayed us from negotiating for someone else..

I would hope we have multiple negotiations on the go at the same time.

I guess they would probably sell him for a big fee (25,30M) to someone who's that desperate to have him (Saints), but I also think they do not really want to sell him in any other scenario, as they are about to lose Sanchez and also Ozil probably in the summer; they need someone to play.

I want Theo, but I think the deal is unrealistic and for that kind of money we should probably look elsewhere.

Yeah, i think we are interested but that's how its going to end up. Although having said that i am actually expecting us to sign somebody for 25m. Not 30 though.
