He also had a very good time with Ajax and PSV. He did win the Copa Del Rey with Valencia and got to the quarter finals of the champions league with Benfica so they were not distastrous by any account. But like you said it's his last job at Feyenoord that really stands out. Especially as they were in freefall before he took over. He had hardly any money to work with and over the 3 years there lost a lot of players. Villa nicked 2 last season even! He turned them back into one of the big 3.
Also of note is that they were last seasons top scorers. He does like to play attacking football. Just how the teams he played in played. I think he would do very well here.
obviously there's a difference with feyenoord being a traditional big hitter, but turning a mid table club into a member of the big three. sounds made for the job.

Like Dan said, no one is going to have the perfect CV if they're coming to Southampton. They'll either have failings or won't be tested at this level

To be fair i didn't follow him too much as a manager. And don't know much at all apart from what i've read about his time before Feyenoord. So i have tended to try and look for the good points rather than the bad from what i read. It all looks pretty good to be honest even if there are some not so great moments. But also, he seemed to be liked and respected by most, and obviously adored in his homeland. He likes to play entertaining attacking football. But then again, that's all he has known in the teams he has played in. What a player as well. I think he still holds the record as the highest scoring defender of all time. Assistant at Barca too. What an amazing amount of experience to bring to the club and the youth, which he likes to use!
I think maybe i am slightly biased because i remember him as a player. Part of the dream team and a really great dutch national side. But hey, after all this ****ty news lately him coming here would make me feel much better, in the short term at least!
If it doesnt work out, we will know this coming season. And can make a change. Under Moyes it will take a while for him to settle in. We play much more like United than Everton under him. So it will take time. But i'm not for all this 'steady the ship' i'm hearing. WHat does that mean anyway? Hanging around mid table for a couple years? Why can't we keep going now? Get a man in that want to play the way we like, and see how it goes.
