Well, you could say that any player [VVD.?] has a very long contract in order for Saints to cash in eventually.

If you say, not in Reed's case, then you can't think that highly of him. ;)
I don't really think that highly of him in fairness. We clearly gave VVD a long contract to get a good price when we have to sell, but that isn't the case with Reed. Which suggests they plan on keeping him.

Personally if it were up to me I would have either let Reed go or maybe loaned him out.

Why not.?

It's all relative. We have no idea how well or relatively poorly Reed is paid. He has security in his contract and Saints have a player who could improve dramatically in the end. Saying that, Saints could possibly make money with a fairly modest bid for him. I would also loan him out. He needs games. If Brighton would like him, that would be excellent. He may get regular games at a high level.

Although I'm generally a positive chap our track record when it comes to breaking transfer fees is a bit ropey
Ramirez, flop
Osvaldo, flop and lunatic
Boufal, jury out
Manolo....?

Ramirez: Cortese pick
Osvaldo: Cortese pick
Boufal: looked good in the low amount of game time.
