This was my favourite night match at Roker, Rowell and big Bob Lee both scored first half then they scored late on. The crowd were great roaring the Lads home. We were both top of our respective leagues so beating Everton was a bit of a surprise result although we deserved it.One of my memories was in 1979 when we beat Everton 2-1 in the fa cup at a very very cold RP, the score warmed everyone up that night (apart from the toffees) only thing I can’t remember are the goal scorers.
I do remember it being proper cold and I was living in Washy at the time and it was very interesting driving home. Great days.
... But if
. Even now writing this, I can still see Armstrong's winner against Chelsea in the cup quarter final, Benno trying to kill Speedie in the Clock Stand. I think it was the whole package that made me want to support Sunderland - the ground, the sound of the fans, the excitement of scoring a goal (a few more now and again in recent times would've been nice!). I can understand the reason we needed to move to the SOL but Roker Park was a special place.
