One of my memories was in 1979 when we beat Everton 2-1 in the fa cup at a very very cold RP, the score warmed everyone up that night (apart from the toffees) only thing I can’t remember are the goal scorers.
This was my favourite night match at Roker, Rowell and big Bob Lee both scored first half then they scored late on. The crowd were great roaring the Lads home. We were both top of our respective leagues so beating Everton was a bit of a surprise result although we deserved it.

I do remember it being proper cold and I was living in Washy at the time and it was very interesting driving home. Great days.

I only started going to Roker from about 85 onwards. Used to walk along to the back of the fulwell from the roker pie shop. Going back now i still expect to see the Fulwell there and it always jarrs me the fact its not there anymore.

My dad always sat me on the crash barrier which joined the roof support about a third of the way up the fulwell. The day we beat Man Utd in 1990 was a particular favourite - Benno scoring in front of the Roker and the place went absolutely nuts. As a 10 year old the noise was unbeleivable.

The SOL whilst an impressive venue just doesnt have that seem feel as Roker, for many of us it probably never will.

Sure that was someone just being pedantic as our next game was a cup game
That was me marra, I only read the free bit in The Times and it said before the next home game. Then someone linked the paid bit and it said next league game, at home.
So dinnit get all funny with me n that or I’ll start gannin leet and staring red faced as **** at the screen hoying virtual anger all ower the bastard place.

We'll that scared the **** out of me and I wasn't even in the debate.

It was @Southern Adam honest <cool>... But if @dyd13 wants to step in, I'm happy with that

You saying that reminded me of a bit of a story. When I first met my uncle and his family in Oz, he took me and my dad to a football game. It wasn't as professional then as it is now - more like a non-league with 1 big stand and we decided to sit near the back. In total there was around 10 of us, me, my dad, my uncle, a couple of his son-in-laws and their lads all sitting in a row. Me with my 92 away top on (even though they said it looked like a Newcastle top (Newcastle in Oz, not those lot up the road - still wore it though!) and just before the game kicked off, my uncle stood straight up and at the top of his voice shouted "Hawayyyyyy, Hawayyyyyy, Hawayyyyyyyyyyy!!!!!!!!!" . I've never seen so many people turn round and look up, with all my cousin's sons slowly sliding down their chairs in embarrassment. Me? I couldn't get the big grin off my face! :emoticon-0140-rofl:

Big Geoge Tuckerman was credited with starting that one off.

Loved going to Roker Park and can still see where I was in the Main Stand paddocks when my dad took me to my first game, loved being in the Fullwell with the swirling that went on but learnt quickly never to stand and lean on the stantions just in case you got crushed with the surge! <laugh>. Even now writing this, I can still see Armstrong's winner against Chelsea in the cup quarter final, Benno trying to kill Speedie in the Clock Stand. I think it was the whole package that made me want to support Sunderland - the ground, the sound of the fans, the excitement of scoring a goal (a few more now and again in recent times would've been nice!). I can understand the reason we needed to move to the SOL but Roker Park was a special place.

Yes , much safer away from the barrier -- didn't matter if you fell because everyone knew to create space around you whilst those nearest pulled you up. Helped many up myself, and I will always remember when it was me, I seemed to back on my feet by the time I even realised I was about to hit the ground.

I think you must have got tongue tied there mate, anyway nearly spat my cabernet sauvignon all over but luckily I managed to hold back. It reminds me of when I mate said that he thought every team in every leagues first game of the season should be at home:emoticon-0100-smile
Sounds like when my son was about 10 he did a world Cup sweepstake at the mother in laws when the whole family where around.
The mother in law pulled out Nigeria and Paraguay to which see replied I knew I would get bloody foreign teams, me and the brother in law were pissing ourselves laughing and the n realised not one of the other 10 people there had even realised what she'd said

It’s a nightmare waiting for the full announcement, but it’s literally any day, with a few staff announcement to hopefully ,KTF
I will take it that’s what the issue is then. They want to announce a full team in one go, Academy Director, Head of Recruitment or is that Speakmans role?

Curious to know what the new staff announcements could be. We already know Sporting director, First team coach and assistant, Academy coach, Communications /systems lead. KLD must be bringing a he'll of new team with him if there's more to come.
