It's a perfect scenario for someone to start a long term project with us. If that can't be done via a manager, then maybe a director of football instead.
Think we would struggle to get a big name to drop down for a manager role, but maybe someone like Steve McLaren for director of football would work, then you have the permanency at that level, and can just upgrade on managers as we improve without too much disruption, and we don't have the situation we've had for the last decade or so, where every change of manager meant a change in preferred formation and playing style with each manager.
That could work because Peter Reid if I recall worked with Cook at Wigan and Cook would probably know how to get the best out of Will Grigg who is essentially a spare part at the minute , he will know the kind of service that Grigg thrives on as they had a lot of success working together . Not suggesting this as a long term suggestion but if PP doesn’t appear to be keeping us as contenders I think they could fill a void and take it from their .
No more short term targets, we need someone for the long run with a vision to move the club forward to match that of what is hopefully the new owners. We want someone that will create a sunderland identity that we can all get behind.

Aye it would sound like madness to turn down Allardyce say but I couldn't see him being in it for the long haul and wouldn't be my first choice for that reason.
Me too.
He should have been moved on in the summer. He has zero confidence and I just can't see him coming on as sub and winning a game for us.

A new manager that believed in him, and made him feet ten feet tall could make all the difference.

You’d think now would be the ideal time to reintroduce him. No crowds to get on his back etc. Only problem is, he just doesn’t fit our current ‘style’.

No doubt it'd be a long shot but I think if he knew there was a load of money to spend and he was paid handsomely himself there'd be a chance he could be persuaded. I think he feels he's got some unfinished business in English football although the older he gets the less he cares probably.
