It's been said above, but I love our crest. It's classy. The minimal badges look half arsed. Bournemouths looks like something a school kid knocked up. I can see why clubs change for a one off season for an anniversary, perhaps revisit an old design. West Brom just used the WBA letters last season (not sure if they still do). I think we need to look to the future, I'm just worried some design team of Gen Zs come up with some "out there" design. Imo only, leave it be, because change it now, and a new trend could emerge where fans expect a badge change along with the new sponsorship

I agree with this about the too simplistic badges but with the ship badge we absolutely nailed it.

If we changed back we could avoid temptation to change again by putting it in the seats are part of the east stand upgrade (a bit like what Bob Murray did with new one. Any grumbles about the new one pretty much ended when he did that).

Just a natter of opinion, and probably age.

The ship badge was only on the shirts for around twenty years, maybe less. Those growing up then will naturally like that one best. Some others too maybe.

For a long time before that there wasn't one, though there had been a good while before it.

Not bothered mesell, though this one has probably been on the shirt longer than any other.

The current one is a mixed up dogs dinner.
Far too busy, far too much been shoehorned in, would have been fine if they'd kept it as a letterhead. Doesnt go well on a shirt at all.
Either bring back the ship or let's have a new one, it's about time.

True, but I do just about remember the stripe only one/none too. The club maybe have got it right where they can just sell both on the retro kits and doesn't matter much what the official one is. I do think the ship badge works much better on internet/screens. The current one is too detailed having been designed just before the internet was really a thing.

It's been mentioned before when this topic comes up but maybe just a black cat on a ball like the original badge would look nice. A bit like Spurs cockeral and ball I suppose.

I love the ship badge, for me it's the Sunderland Badge. In my ideal world if we could add something to it as as a reminder of our mining heritage, without losing the ship or blue sea, I'd be happy.
This is the badge that resonate with lots of supporters as it does with me. I've had this badge, as you do with your avatar, on my hat for years (even Ellis Short wanted my badge and hat from me ) and its been allover with me. I have pride in it. Sorry Bob, but this new one you brought in and I do understand why you did, has never been a proud statement of where we come from. It will be out and about once again when the cold weather strikes.

I wonder if there any other clubs where the 'old badge' is still sticking around as the much as the ship one does for us?

I bet there are quite a few mate. For me the badges of the 70s and 80s were brilliant. Simple but striking and all quite unique. Too many similar to each other today and often cluttered, like ours in my opinion.

Birminghams sticka out as one that hasnt changed much in a long time. Class badge as well. Aberdeen one of my favourites hasnt changed much I dont think.

My favourite badge of all time is Newells Old Boys and I hope they keep with it.
