As I've said before, I THINK when Nixon says Cowley is favourite for a reason - he means favourite with the bookies for a reason, not favourite with Sunderland for a reason.

And the reason he's favourite with the bookies is alluded to be because he's favourite with Sunderland.

To be honest my excitement over the whole thing has gone. I thought poyet and schwarz coming in would be fantastic and a real signal that our new owner had serious ambition. Sadly looking at the names that are now linked and the rumour poyet turned us down due to money it suggests takeover or no takeover the club’s ambitions are still small time like under donald.

Sorry if it’s been posted already, and I know it’s from a few years ago, but this article about Gourvennec is extremely interesting. If he is in the running, this makes him sound very positive and perhaps fits the mould a lot more as a head coach than the other names mentioned. I would suggest you all give it a read.

Haha that’s what made me read the rest of the article. But it’s a great read, it discusses how intellectual he is and his insistence on a philosophy of play (something missing from Sunderland for a long time). Also seems to have contacts in the game. The fact Marseille considered him before Bielsa says a lot too. Maybe one to keep an eye out for.

The bookies just won't drop him which is keeping me interested. Normally people drop off the list if nobody talks about them. And nobody is talking about him.

If he's as good as that article suggests we'd be going toe to toe with Real Madrid in a few years.

Sounds like a more exciting prospect than the other bunch.

Good to see we are moving fast for a new manager with nothing lined up and 2 games now wasted on top of the games Parky didnt bother before he was sacked.

Indeed. This whole time I’ve been expecting a left field appointment out of nowhere. Can’t shake the French connection and, like you say, him being in the bookies lists for no apparent reason.

Exactly. I think the other names mentioned are just going to be disappointing to a large chunk of the fan base for one reason or another. An international manager with a decent reputation/potential might be a better way to keep positivity high whilst getting the type of manager we need. I certainly would be more pleased with him than the likes of Cook and Johnson.

Gotta say, one of the things that has made me the most livid through this whole process has been the suggestion that Parkinson knew he was getting sacked long before he was sacked. He looked like he didn't care any more, and it's clear he didn't.

Telling him he was getting sacked before doing it, is so negligent, unprofessional and frankly idiotic its untrue.

    If it's true.

If you think about it, telling someone they are leaving when they hold a huge amount of responsibility then allowing them to continue in their job a few more days would be madness. That is what gardening leave was invented for

I think he knew the way the wind was blowing, maybe he'd been told the takeover was imminent. His demeanour in the last few weeks has been worse than ever. His subs on Friday night screamed of a man who had given up

I think he looks like an excellent prospect but I don't see much difference between him and certain young British managers who've worked their way up, Bordeaux aside perhaps.
That's not to say I wouldn't want him. I'm just expecting the same criticisms to be levelled at him.
