Fair point, the assistant did flag and it was a really good decision. However, on another day the ball could have been headed backwards by a Spanish defender therefore he would have been onside. VAR can check that so still worth having it.
Offside like the goal that was just ruled out is yes - no. They need to learn the when and how to use it for sure, but VAR itself is not a bad thing.
I also look forward to the day when the ref is invited to look at a video and sticks by his own opinion.
I'd like there to be a lesser punishment for unintentional hand balls. The rules as they are clearly don't work very well and it always frustrates me when a good attack is broken up by one and its usually given as a foul anywhete else on the pitch. It's a pet hate of mine. I've been thinking and indirect free kick from the edge of the box or some such. I imagine that would produce less penalties but result in more goals.
France v Peru, good match this so far. I was pondering if there are other situations in life where your would use you head a limb other than football, during the last one.
Peru, Germany and Belgium have kits based on ones from their finest tournaments; and Spain have one modeled on their 1996 kit, where they exited on penalties to England
