i best get back to doing work... unless anyone knows anything extensive on whether or not Freud's theory of the super-ego stemmed from his pessimistic view of civilization due to the carnage of WW1 and the rise of Fascism?

The more I hear about Maiga, the more it's apparent he's not a goalscorer, he's more like a wide forward, similar position to Gervinho.

I think he looks a good player. Sometimes you get players suited to certain leagues and he looks like he has the strength and speed to cope with the premier league.

Certainly an improvement on Lovenkrands, Ameobi and Best though. I'm looking forward to seeing him here.

that he is but i've watched him a canny bit this season and targets we've tried to get (erdnic) and ones we've been linked with (de jong etc.) are better and something different to what we have already which maiga isn't difference wise.

every time i've seen him he plays straight down the middle and nothing like gervinho.More like Ba but raw not the finished article.whether that's down to how his current club play him who knows. Not saying he's crap just think there's better options for various reasons.

edit: the one major thing i'll say about Maiga is that on a number of occasions he has looked disinterested whether that's down to signing for us or not who knows but it also has a bearing on his performances

One such player is Ivory Coast international and Nice midfielder 26 year-old Kafoumba Coulibaly and news today in the Daily Mirror that the Magpies are readying a bid for Nice midfielder Kafoumba Coulibaly.

The player is similar in style to Cheick Tiote, and is even the same height at 5’10″, but he has played only once for the Ivory Coast, and if Newcastle are really interested in this player, it could mean they will take the £20M said to be offered for Cheick by Chelsea in January.

It is being reported that an offer somehow in the region of £3million should be enough to get Coulibaly on Tyneside.

Newcastle face stiff competition from Borussia Dortmund for the signing of French left-back Aly Cissokho.

Alan Pardew already has a healthy stock of French-speaking stars at the club including Yohan Cabaye, Hatem Ben Arfa and Demba Ba.

And the Toon boss could be about to add another Gallic star in the shape of the 24-year-old France international.

But Dortmund, who are flying high in second in the Bundesliga, are ready to make a move for Cissokho in the New Year transfer window.

Dortmund manager Jurgen Klopp, according to L'Equipe, sent a member of his scouting staff to Lyon's 1-0 over Lorient on Sunday in which Cissokho played 90 minutes and picked up a caution.

Newcastle scouts were at Le Mans-Guingamp French Cup game to supervise U20 international striker Anthony Knockaert (20 ans), says L'Equipe.

I didnt mean to say he plays like Gervinho, just that he's used on the wing a lot, isnt a natural centre forward like Ba. I think he started his career as a winger, and when they were going to sell him to us in January, his touted replacement was Gradel, who's a winger.

i know, wasn't a dig but the edited bit sort of sums him up at the minute i think he's playing like someone who knows he's going and not trying to get injured and his club have used him as a sub a few times,it's like they can't wait till they're shot of him and he can't wait till he's gone.i'm sure he was a totally different player last season but i can only go off what i've seen :) where as erdnic for example is playing like someone trying to break into the team and impress his boss (when he comes on) and is impressive i'm sure it's all down to circumstances.

Possibly, does anyone know how many scouts we actually have? I read we were watching Barca B a little while ago.

no idea had a look around and came up with nowt
