I can remember a time when we were all Geordies ...

... then John Hall invented the Geordie Nation and I handed in my card.

From that day on I referred to myself as 'Durham' and proud of it.
The border from " Dorty Mackem" territory into the hallowed ground of righteous Geordieness is quite flexible though. Bobby Robson from Langley Park and Bobby Thompson from Fatfield were "promoted" to be members of the Geordie Nayshun without a hint of irony.

It's cringe worthy mate I refer to myself as a Geordie and I'm proud of it and where I come from, what my parents/grandparents did they we're hard workers down the pit just so happened he was over a pit this way and ended up settling in Backworth.

I take pride though in correcting people when they presume I support the mags letting them know I support the lads and not those idiots.

It's a shame though as the mags make Geordies look bad IMO as people now when they think of a Geordie its a bloke in a newcastle top swiggin brown ale or crying on TV.

That John Hall for you the absolute ****er... he ****ed them over would have went bust but Ashley saved them yet Ashley is the ****er and Hall is the legend.

The perceived image of a Geordie, these days, is a ridiculous cartoon caricature.

It's one I don't want to be associated with tbh.

The way they overact and overpronounce their words is like an act they've all become part of.

Was working with a lad from Bishop Auckland who was a Newcastle supporter and proudly called himself a Geordie, to compound this he had the temerity to call our foreman ( a Sunderland supporter from South Shields) a Mackem. <laugh>

I've always been called a Mackem even though grew up over here just because I wore the red and white and sports day and didn't hide the fact I supported Sunderland even though we we're **** and it was when they had their purple patch.

Even had a pal who moved up here from down south when young started supporting Arsenal but then changed to Newcastle around about 14-15 then reckons he is a proud Geordie and always wears a strip when its sunny.

Whenever he tries to give me **** I just laugh and say I thought you we're an Arsenal fan and he hates it.
