Royal exit due to family illness meaning that he wanted to move back to Merseyside says he's still a phone call away. Seem less odd now.

So why did he accept the job in first place.

So he was happy to work here with a family illness, but not now he has an offer from Everton. Nonsense.

3 months time, I think our club will be in meltdown.

How do you know it wasn't diagnosed 2 days ago? We know nothing about the situation other than the two sentences Adams has said on the subject

Why is it nonsense? A job is a job, family illness or not. Now he has what he considers is a better offer for him and his family. I'd do the same.

Meltdown indeed, you do like to hissy fit, don't you. I know you do it to provoke a reaction, I'm just saying. (I guess I just played into your hands)

Its quite strange another job happened to arrive at the same time.

And it just happened to be Everton, which I understand Royle said was the only other club he would have left for.

I don't doubt a family illness, I just doubt he would have left for that reason if Tranmere were the only option so I find it to be disingenuous to use it as a reason.

I'm not pushing anyones buttons, its what I think will happen.

It all seems inbred and clique, when the idea is to reform and change.

You just won fifty sheets you old misery guts, did you see Lfferty`s free kick ? Not bad for a tall person.

Sigh, I was just starting to feel a bit cheery despite being ill and on tramadol & barely being able to walk.

You morose bastards lol

Thing is GM, we fell in that trap thinking money is the be all and end all, players with no passion and are just in it for the money will not get you out of the championship period, you need players with quality yes, but more importantly the work ethic and passion to do something for the club.

I'm not saying money is the be all and end all, but if a manager is a good judge of a player (No idea if Adams is?) then a more expensive passionate player with a good work ethic trumps the one that was available on a free. If he's available on a free it can generally be for 2-3 reasons. He wasn't worthy of a new contract? Or the contract offered didn't meet his expectations and so ran down his existing deal, sounds like the freebies are either not good enough to be offered a new deal (i.e. Rejects) or just in it for the money (i.e. mercenaries) and waiting for a bigger payday when no transfer fee is required. I know that this is slightly simplistc, but why else does a player find himself out of contract? Relegation and lack of affordability of their existing deal may be one.
Whilst I will accept that a player who is available for free may have a point to prove, he is still unlikely to be as good as the one who commands a fee because the parent club actually want to keep him.

I think you're gonna find that quality, work ethic and passion are all equally important if you are to elevate yourself from the also rans to the contenders. Because it is that little extra quality that will differentiate you from the rest of the blood and thunder of the championship.

The other point of note is, that many clubs have tried to buy their way out of the championship and failed. This is in my view down to two main reasons; high levels of competition and poor mangement (certaintly the case for your lot!) But it is increasingly becoming a I have more money than you (PL like) situ, where the richer clubs be it parachute payments or external wealth are increasingly those competing at the top. See the promoted teams below. Of that list I guess Blackpool offer hope to all those in the bargain bin!

Bah!

maybe i've missed something but we don't exactly appear to be buying all and sundry this summer. we've bought two new players in a problem area for seven figure sums but we're arguably in profit in terms of player sales so far or at the very least have broken even. adams has already stated that he's not interested in buying players for 'silly money' (alluding to rhodes and mccormack no doubt). the main point here is that we already have an excellent squad for championship level and it really only needs a few tweaks here and there to be top-end competitive. the big question mark is not really over the squad strength, its over the manager as he is an unknown quantity. there are bargains to be had out there, no question, but even the freebies are on big wages. nobody comes cheap these days...

back to royle, its disappointing because i felt that was a really good appointment - probably the best bit about our new regime - but if there are concerns about health in his family and he feels he needs to move on then i think you have to take that at face value. i'm sure he's still available to chat with and i wouldn't be surprised if he is not replaced by anyone permanent. it's a shame, but that's life. if we do replace him, please, not chris sutton! he's the dullest man on earth. we'd be better off appointing a lamp post.

on a side note, i see gregg broughton has been promoted and that's another good decision. people will moan that its 'another internal appointment' but he's excellent at his job and deserves the opportunity to progress.

My main concern is not who we recruit, but more a case of which players want to stay and fight to get us back into the PL!!!!

I'd just like to add that I'm not expecting many to leave - Fer (if we can get a reasonable fee for him) Bassong and possibly Hoolahoops. Fairly confident that most of the others will stay. <ok>

i think bassong and becchio are doomed.

fer and rvw most likely to join them.

Adams has actually said that he has the ability to discuss things with Royle by phone if need be.

Also, I wonder if Wes' position has changed now that Adams is the manager and shows a willingness to use the diamond, which suits Wes. He certainly seemed back to his old ways at Braintree last night. Like others, I think Bassong and Becchio will leave, possibly Fer, Olsson and RvW as well. I hope the last three stay, and Redmond as well.

The way i see it we brought in players like Fer Olsson RVW Redmond and Bassong to step up a level, if we harbor any intentions of going up then we need to use these players for a whole season so if we do go up then we don`t need to have the whole gelling business again.
Unless we are offered silly money then we need to keep hold of them as we will have to push the boat out again next summer on untried players ,this should be a season for rebuilding confidence careers and finding that winning formula especially away from home, if we are not in the hunt by January then get rid of the ones not pulling their weight.

I don't mind Bassong and Becchio going but we need to hold onto Fer and RVW if we have any ambition, it takes time for players to settle and we need to keep the team together, I think RVW will probably be OK judging by his twitter, from the article I read on Sky Sports yesterday Fer's agent seemed to be instigating a move somewhere.

Wes is of an age where he wants to be playing regular football, Hughton was never going to offer him that so wanting out was understandable, even if he handled it poorly. If Adams is prepared to make use of him (if the diamond continues to be used in pre-season, and no CAM joins then perhaps he will) then Wes may feel less incentive to leave. Unless Villa come back for him (doubtful I think), there's few clubs that will want to pay a decent transfer fee for a player entering the end of his career, or match his wages which will still be high for the championship.

Whether he stills gets on with the rest of the team will obviously be a key factor too.

I'm not worried about the loss of Royle as long as he is replaced. Adams and his Coaches are inexperienced and Adams needs help. The people I am going to mention would not come here so don't start arguing about their merits but he needs somebody like Royle, Warnock or Coppell who have done the job, are too old to probably get another chance but young enough to put in a good shift in the backroom. Somebody who can walk into Adams office and say ' leave that I'll sort it out, I'll sort out your media schedule, I'll discuss that with the Academy etc etc - now get off to Colney and sort out the coaching '
