You act like making a 30+ yard pass is guaranteed to fall to one of our players. The chance of keeping possession falls the further up the field.

By that logic the safest way to retain possession is playing it short as 8 yards in front of our goal is in the penalty area and opposition players can’t enter the area. So it’s a near 100% chance of retaining the ball and not conceding. I get it’s your opinion and you’re entitled to it but the two teams who have been automatically promoted literally both employ this tactic from goal kicks. It’s worked for them and they’ve stuck with it even when they’ve made mistakes.
losing the ball 30 yards out on the wing is less likely to concede a goal than losing the ball 8 yards out in front of goal
a player 8 yards out can lose the ball

Morton lost the ball on the edge of the Boro penalty area, and they scored just seconds later. You’re more likely to concede when you aren’t in possession of the ball, regardless of where on the pitch you are.

That’s the risk vs the reward. As many have pointed out. Out of our 60 goals we conceded this year I can think of 2 that have come from an Allsop pass. WBA away and QPR away. That’s 3.33% of our goals.

The reward is that you often get goals like Fabio’s against Cardiff, Both goals against Swansea away, two of Tufan’s goals against Sheff Wed, Connolly’s first goal against Blackburn, Tufan’s against Bristol, Delap’s against Leicester, all our goals against Stoke away, Philogene’s against Birmingham, pretty much all our goals against Rotherham at home, 2 of the goals against Cardiff at home, Tufan’s winner against Boro, Connolly’s Bristol away….

I could name more but I have to get lunch at work. But you know it’ll never work

Jayden was the biggest culprit though. Are you suggesting it was under orders from LR?

Am I suggesting the players were playing the game as per a game plan laid out by LR, absolutely. It'd be bonkers to suggest otherwise, especially given the performance they've been capable of elsewhere. In Jadan's case for club and country.

are you saying that you are just as likely to concede a goal if you lose possession on the edge of the opponent's penalty area than if you lose possession on the edge of your own penalty area?

are you saying that the goals we scored were due to passing the ball around in our own half of the pitch rather than moving the ball forward quickly?

Just so my argument is clear to you. I agree that progressing the ball could’ve been done quicker.

I disagree that playing it to a midfielder 8-10 yards from goal from a GK is a bad way of playing.

To answer your question. These goals probably came from initially playing out the back and then finding the correct moment to progress quicker. A lot of them started from a GK being played short.

You’re trying to make 2 points and convolute them as one

Allsop seems as though he is very chilled. At times an asset, at other times it's like he needs a rocket up his arse when we could do with some urgency, quick early distribution etc. I'm not sure his unruffled, take my time approach is going to be to Walter's liking! His decision making certainly changed, and thankfully so, from the Doncaster debacle!! I know it wasn't only Allsop to blame, but he was a massive part of possible the most ridiculous performance I've ever seen (in 55 years of watching City)!!
Re. Oscar and pressing hard / harder. We only saw hard pressing in fits and starts under Rosenior. It certainly wasn't anything like our norm. Southampton first half springs to mind, but such examples are outliers. Can't see how it has anything to do with being a reflection on Oscar; can't see for one moment why he couldn't work in a 'harder pressing' set up, he's hardly a Billy Sharp (wtf was that all about!!
Ingram was our keeper in that game

No,
are you saying that you are just as likely to concede a goal if you lose possession on the edge of the opponent's penalty area than if you lose possession on the edge of your own penalty area?
No, I said you are more likely to concede if you don’t have possession. Kicking the ball from the keeper to higher up the pitch increases the likelihood you lose possession.

Nobody is saying we shouldnt play out from the back, despite the number of times that straw man is used
when we passed around at the back and then progressed upfield we would find our opponents were prepared and we, especially our wingers, would pass back to our full backs

You yourself in this thread have said that a GK playing to a man 8 yards out from the goal isn’t a good idea. I hate to break it to you but that’s playing out the back

what was your point when you said that Morton lost the ball on the edge of the opponent's penalty area?
"I said you are more likely to concede if you don’t have possession."
what is your point? retain possession at all costs? dont risk attacking?
if you have possession in your own half of the pitch you wont score a goal

there's more than one way of playing out from the back
there's safe ways and risky ways
a goalkeeper playing to a man 8 yards out in front of goal is more likely to be risky

Why not explain now?...'We will explain to our fans maybe one day what happened.'

You always got the impression LR tried to be more offensive from the start of the year but it didn't always work. If he had a gentle nudge to change from the top did he view it as a request contrary to his beliefs and told them so? We won't know until the owner comes out with the truth sooner rather than later.
