Walter does like progress the ball faster but it’s very akin to Rosenior’s initial build up from the back. Using the GK and a midfielder to bait out the press the move forward. His teams have generally topped possession charts wherever he’s gone amongst other stats The minor differences come in that he wants the ball to get to the creative players quicker. Be that a creative midfielder or winger. Rosenior’s build up though by comparison is remarkably more safe. What he liked was a back 3 with a Gk to rotate possession which doesn’t really allow for a lot of error. Walter will push the GK into the Cb position when in possession and push the full backs up creating a lot of space behind at the sacrifice of getting bodies forward. It will create chances but if you think it’s not suicide ball every now and then they’re you’re in for a shock
Its exactly how he plays Its to take out their front players Then overload their defense with players Keeper under walter probably has more touches than keeper under rosie
I think there's far to much focus on strategies, tactics, formations, philosophys and the likes. Trying to play the game as if it was chess, however in chess after your move the opponent has a fixed number of options to do. In football your best made plan can not predict what the opposition will do. What's that saying about all the planing goes out the window when you come face to face with the enemy.
No one is complaining about playing out from the back - it's the constant sideways sideways backwards that epitomises Rosieball - it's supposed to lead to playing the ball forward, Rosieball is all about keeping the ball in your own third for as long as possible then hoofing it over everyones head, sometimes to a forward but more often straight to their keeper or straight into touch
Yeah Ipswich did it at points. I don’t think the lived and died by it quite like what I’ve seen Walter do
Every single goal, starts off with someone making a mistake, you just hope your team makes less than the other
Reading that Walter's team plays like Rosenior's, I'm betting that you'll be at the MKM shouting for his sacking by the second week of September. Which is longer than some have had. The views expressed in my posts are not necessarily mine.
So from what I have read about Walter’s style Allsopp sounds like he is even more suited to him liking a fly goalie Estupian is even less suited to him demanding a constant press? Thoughts?
From all the Hamburg games I've watched the keeper is used a bit differently from the way LR used ours. Allsop often played risky passes through the lines along with the typical ball into Seri to suck the press in. The Hamburg keeper seems to make himself available to create more options for passes and allow others to create angles for passes but predominantly plays simple passes to a nearby open player. Hopefully means that we don't have to rely on the technical ability of Allsop and Pandur can step in at some poiint.
Watch LRs teams win the ball and, where they should be transitioning into a quick counter attack, slow the play down and allow the oppo to regain their shape was like pulling teeth. I'm quite excited to see the likes of Jadan be given the freedom to really put teams to the sword. It's a massive shame we didn't get to see the likes of Fabio also do it this season.
I can see Walter liking Allsop. You are right he doesn’t need the technical ability to find a killer ball but I can imagine it’s a huge plus. What’s also underrated about Allsop is his decision making which is pretty important. This could all be pointless anyway if Pandur actually is decent with his feet anyway. I just haven’t seen anything of him
or make sure you have possession of the ball further forward so it is less likely to lead to conceding a goal
Alsopp is suited to the kind of play and he's certainly got more experience playing that way, but Pandur overall I think will be better suited and here's why. One of Pandur's main strengths (from what I can gather speaking to Dutch mates who've seen him) is that he absolutely dominates coming to collect the ball. I can't remember the last time we had a keeper who came off their line to collect the ball from a cross or corner, but Pandur does it constantly and successfully. He's also great at coming out of the area and clearing the ball, he was apparently the best at it in the Eredivise. He likes to collect the ball and then rapidly distribute it. His passing is very good too, as is his shot stopping, the only weakness they mentioned was that he can sometimes lose his head and get proper psycho if he concedes, which tends to throw his game. He'll need to work that out for sure, but he sounds quite a lot like a young Greegsy and that cannot be a bad thing. I think Oscar can be trained to press harder, he's a good athlete and if Tufan can be trained to do it, Oscar can too. I can see the appeal of Oscar being in the squad as he is a poacher and we lacked that last season. I'm not sure he'll settle for being just a bit part player, so it'll be interesting to see if he fits into the new manager's plans. For what it's worth, I think losing him last season was a mistake, he's quite obviously good enough to be a Championship striker and having both him and potentially Delap in the team would be a nightmare for defenders.

I think the issue more stemmed from the fact that Jaden absolutely could bomb forward, but there was seldom anybody else pushing on so he had to stop and track back because there was no other option. That was down to the playing style, absolutely.
I shouldn't get involved in this ****e once again, but it really does baffle me that anyone can genuinely believe it's as simple as just deciding to have the ball further up the pitch. Sorry opposition team, but I'm afraid we're going to have the ball close to your goal now. Kindly step aside whilst we do that.
