I don't know about overall goals, but it's likely because when we got promoted it was the first time since the introduction of the playoffs that no automatically promoted side had a top scorer with 10 goals or more (Koren was top scorer, and our top striker I think had 4).

Based on seeing Cairney play the games he did against Man City and Chelsea in the space of a week the first time we were in the PL it's pretty undeniable that he has the ability to be a PL player. He pretty much ran the midfield in both games (I remember after them saying that even without the other issues I'd pick him ahead of Bullard), and against Man City he was up against the physical games of Viera, De Jong, and Gareth Barry and held his own, I'm sure at one point after Viera came on they'd doubled up on him as it was the only way they could deal with him.

The question mark was always would did he have the attitude to be able to consistently play like that, because the really frustrating thing with him here was he'd have games like those and then go all powder puff for others for no apparent reason. He's gone to Blackburn and done well there by having regular football and he's obviously developed a more consistent game.

On the one hand you can say that's been a mistake by us to sell him as he's now developed that consistency, on the other you can say he wouldn't have played ahead of Huddlestone and Livermore last season, and had they been fit this season Snodgrass and Diame would have been ahead as well. So how would he have got the regular football to develop his game into what it is? Certainly for this season you wouldn't have hung onto him as 5th or 6th choice in central midfield in anticipation of 2 season ending injuries and 2 players crashing and burning compared to last season. (and still Quinn and Meyler to get past to get in the team).

In terms of us finding dross or not when it comes to going forward. Last summer we signed 4 midfielders with the intention of making us a more creative side. Snodgrass got injured on his debut, Diame got injured and didn't really play again after October (I'm not counting rushing him back and finding he was still injured as him playing again), Ramirez was struggling with niggly things all season, and Ben Arfa was Ben Arfa. 2 of those are obviously unlucky, Ramirez was worth the gamble as if after 10-15 games he'd got over his problems he'd have been a good player for us, and BA was undoubtedly the best player amongst them but we got it wrong in thinking his attitude issue was to do with Pardew being a twat more than him being one himself. Personally I think knowing Snodgrass was out, signing Diame and hoping that 1 of the other 2 would pay off was a reasonable move to make, it just didn't work out.

Sad to see him go but also happy if he goes to a club where he is first choice, he deserves it.

I agree, although even when we've had the personnel to play in a 4-4-2, and even if it suited the opposition, Bruce rarely played it. He has complete tunnel vision over 3-5-2, and I'm starting to think that there are a couple of major reasons for that, it means that Elmo and, usually, Alex are both guaranteed a game. What other reasons can there be for simply going 3-5-2 in the majority of games? I don't believe it's because Bruce is completely clueless, so seriously what's the answer?

It makes no sense at all, Chezzy, by his own admission, doesn't like to play at RB. Also Rosie was a better RB than Chezzy was when he was forced to play there.

I won't need to - with all the **** I've had off here when I've moaned about the useless ****, I'm sure there'll be a string of Prem clubs after his signature and he'll be off, - I've already offered the first taker a £50 bet that no Prem club would come in for him earlier in this thread - unsurprisingly, I'm still waiting although I suspect I won't be waiting as long as he is

So some of the ones calling for Brucies head, despite him being a nice bloke, want to keep a player who's barely played, and would likely feature very little next season because he's a nice bloke?

    <laugh>

I think if the club announced we were going to play on green grass with white lines some of you would still be purple with rage and indignation.

Rosie's a professional footballer. He more than likely wants to play regularly in the twilight of his career. That will not happen with us, so he's now free to go find a club who will give him that.

Nowt to stop him returning as a coach when he hangs his boots up.

Ash should keep his ****ing nose out too, it's cock all to do with him, **** stirring should be left to the twitter no marks, like the ones we have on here.

BTW, We're still going to be playing on green grass no matter how much you lot gnash your teeth and wail at the moon.

SB usually does think about the player, I suspect that he intends to play his preferred 352 next season, which Rossy's have been the unfortunate victim off. Maybe he has discussed this with SB and as he is not likely to get much game time next season, they came to a conclusion better he moves to a club that will give him games time.

You live in as fantasy world. It would have been very easy to offer Rosie a sensible contract that he would have accepted. They haven't and that is just daft. I understand Macca, it is best for him, but not us. Our dressing room needs a rejuvenation that Bruce has been proven incapable of achieving.

Model pro and a credit to the club and city.

however I am taking some positives from this.

it seems SB has had chat with the top earners and asked who is staying and up for a fight. We alreafy know the front three have said "no thanks", Macca not been needed is possibly a mix of the key centre halfs saying they are staying and his fall out with SB.
Rosie been released suggests that elmo is staying and Lehiman is close to been ready. If quinn is released I would assume meyler, diame and snodgrass are staying.

If losing Rosie means we can keep Robbo and Elmo then its good business

I have no doubt Rosie will go on to another club to play regularly as he deserves.

We won't know till Bruce makes it clear which way he intends to take the Club, maybe he see's certain players as surplus to the way he wants to go this time and needs to free up the wages to bring in a more attacking or more defensive RB.

I suspect he will be the first of many to go and he certainly will not be the last for all we know he may be letting fringe players go to finance other positions thinking we are already strong in that particular department were other players can fill in.

But whatever he decides he is the Manager and he will decide what is best for the club he and the players he keeps will want to take the club straight back up and i believe he will i do not think we will do a wolves or wigan and we really do need to trim the fringe players off the books to get a few in who will actually be good enough to worry others in the positions they play it is no use carrying players who are not as good as the one's they need to replace during a game.

Gutted about this. One of my favourite players, he cared about the club and never put a foot wrong. A classy defender, appreciated by all.

I know changes have to be made, but I didn't expect this one. To me, it's undeserved, and it's a sad end at this club for a great servant.

I've never always been convinced by Macca, but the last couple of seasons he's come on leaps and bounds, and his performance at weekend was Thor-like. If he goes as well, along possibly with Quinn, then there goes a lot of heart.

I know Bruce has pulled some cracking signings out in the past, but not so much of late, and I hope we don't regret this. I think it's unnecessary, undignified for the lad, and rash.

I would like to put on record on this forum, for what it's worth, my immense gratitude to Liam for his service, and I hope he knows how well thought of he was/is. I am genuinely gutted about this, I would like him to stay over numerous others.

Thank you, and good luck Rosie.

Maybe Allam brought in a team of expert consultants last night to decide who stays and who goes?

Makes no sense to me at all.

I'm currently in France and told myself I wasn't going to post anything whilst on holiday.
I self imposed ban if you like but this is something that needs commenting on.

    By me.

    Awful decision IMO.

Truly shocking, it's saddened and frustrated me as this.

And I've got sunburn, my face is the colour of a ribina berry.
