Who's tried defending it?

Oh god I've found myself in one of those arguments where somebody is clearly doing/saying something but then claims they aren't. Sigh.

Ok. Ignore the word defending. Maybe downplaying, making random comparisons to other cases to claim it's one rule for one not for another rather than just saying that's a bit ****, making out it's a common thing, easily excused, everybody does it, etc.

Basically you drink and drive then you are a ****, but unless you kill someone it's ok cos we all do it.

You're making stuff up now. Nobody has downplayed it, it's ****ing stupid. It's also certain that many people drive under the influence not knowing, or believing, that they are.

The comparison to Gallagher was to highlight Sky's reporting hypocrisy. To be fair they didn't report on Jim White's ban either or him being stopped from getting on a plane because he was over pissed.

Gallagher was stopped at half 11 in the morning. That highlights how difficult it is to judge. I'd guess that most on here have been on serious sessions, some lasting all day, & then driven the next day. Chances are they were over the limit.

How many have woke up with a twat of a hangover but still driven to work or the shops or somewhere else? Chances are they were over the limit. Again I'd guess most.

The only difference between Rooney & many many others, including me, is that he has been caught.

Good god, no of course you didn't downplay it at all. Saying everybody does it isn't at all trivialising it. Jumping on negative comments challenging whether people have done it isn't at all downplaying.

I don't particularly care how it is reported. Kirsty Gallagher got caught? Good. Jim White? Good. My next door neighbours great grandma's cousins' old friend? Good.

If you drive the day after a heavy session you are a ****. If you drive with even a slight inclination that you may be over the limit then you are a ****. Same applies to anybody.

& as I said previously most people will have done it. That's neither trivialising or downplaying it.

Good job you're not also greedy, overpaid, overhyped & overweight as some might then think you're a ****.
I think most of us will have drove to work the next day over the limit without even knowing it.
There's a lot more knowledge and warnings nowadays so really just leave the bloody car at home.
But for someone like Rooney to do it when he could probably afford a limo everywhere is just ****ing laziness.

Which was exactly my point regarding the sanctimonious ****s judging him. We're all ****s, just most of us have not been caught.
