    He obviously does not.
According to Roker Report his £73K per week will drop to around £44k per week next season. The average annual wage of a League One footballer in 2016 was reported at around £69,500 per year - which is about what Rodwell makes in just one week as a Sunderland player.
I think we are stuck with him but we still won't see him on the pitch.

Is there a known cause why Rodwell's not playing, and probably won't be playing for you next season?
A physical or mental health issue?

A tragic waste of resources, whatever the reasons.

He's got worms and can't play for more than 30 seconds without rubbing his arse along the grass

A severe case of a lack of humility.

At least that's the prognosis from the working class man on the street.

Symptoms include hiding behind an iron-clad contract bestowed by an incompetent football club.

If he is indeed refusing to play, surely it's breach of contract !

He's injured according to the Chronicle journo and Cookie does not want him in the team anyway.

How's he managed to get a foot injury?
Recklessly putting on his slippers perhaps.

Makes you wonder how long he's been pulling this too injured to play ****, he's spent three quarters of his career on the bench, maybe he's never intended to make a go of it at any of his clubs.

Yeah, but here's the thing. If you're in a normal job and are blagging the sick, your employer can have you assessed to see if you should be retired

Aye I think that's what's so frustrating about it is that he's not remotely accountable for his actions. Seems he can say and do whatever he wants and we can't touch him.

Bloody Maggie Byrne. She's a big part of why we're in the situation we're in.

Nigel Reo-Coker says Sunderland can blame no one but themselves over the Jack Rodwell situation, and says you can’t blame the player for wanting sit out the final year of his big-money contract.

Rodwell was the only Sunderland player not to take wage cut last summer when the Black Cats were relegated from the Premier League.

    Yeh that’s fair enough
But the useless Rodwell who has no ambition IMO has just finished his so called career in the big leagues.

Plus everyone in the country surely has the right to openly laugh into his face when they see him after that "I still want to play for England" interview.

The guy will be bankrupt by the time he's 40. It's simply a certainty.

Well thank you Nigel stating the bleeding obvious Reo-Coker for spotting something no one else had.

    Dipshit!

So if you were his agent and the lad had come out with statements about still being a PL player and with aspirations to still play for England, would you advise him to (a) get your arse in gear, forget the money and find a club matching your aspirations, ahem, willing to take you on, or (b) sit on your arse for 2 years and take the £5m or so.
