Andy Robertson v Robbie Brady: Who should start for Hull City against Southampton?

Hull City writer Philip Buckingham says boss Steve Bruce is facing a 'welcome dilemma' as Andy Robertson and Robbie Brady go head to head for the right to face Southampton.

JUST as he would always want it, Steve Bruce has much to ponder when weighing up his options in a Hull City squad that has never run deeper.

Even allowing for the current injury problems, there is Alex Bruce battling it out with Paul McShane in the centre of defence, David Meyler and Stephen Quinn pushing for midfield recalls, and Hatem Ben Arfa holding off the challenges of Gaston Ramierz and Sone Aluko up front. Heck, Tom Ince cannot even make the bench.

But of all the duels within this talented squad, there is suddenly none more intriguing than Robbie Brady going up against Andy Robertson.

So who would you go for? After Saturday's performance, I'd stick with Brady for this one.
 
Brady deserves to keep his place after his performance.

It also gives Robertson at least an extra week recovery to make sure he is 100%.

Competition for places is vital this sends a message out to the rest of the squad play well and you keep your place.
 
Brady, he been good this season. Robertson is the new kid on the block so people get excited by him but he can develop a lot more with his defending.
 
I would opt for Brady, simply because I think he is more solid defensively. Still has a lot going forward too, if not the pace of Robertson.

I think after Bruces praises for Brady, it is now his to lose.
 
As the above said, give Robbo a rest.

You have to show players on the bench they can earn a chance.

Brady needs some game time anyway, even if he goes back to the bench next match.
 
I prefer Robertson, but chose Brady for a) his great performance at Anfield, and b) to avoid Robertson getting burnout later on in the season.

Yes, it's a real sign of how things have changed. He really does seem to have shored up his defensive game, while Robertson is a couple of years behind him in that area.

Personally, I'd keep Brady there this week, and once Robertson is 100% and itching to get off the leash I'd find a way to have both on the pitch.
 
Tough one but v Saints I'd go for Brady after a top defensive performance at LFC
That gives Robertson time to fully recover plus sends a positive message to the other fringe players too.
 
Brady has earned the right to keep his shirt after his performance at Anfield, and until he has a below par game or gets injuryed/banned/knackered then it should be his to keep, and I would say that right across the squad where we've got options.
 
Robbo for me, yes I know that Brady defended like a Trojan against Liverpool but I just think that we missed the attacking prowess that Robbo brings to our side.

As others have said I wouldn't have a problem with both being included at the expense of HBA.
 
I think he may play Brady up top in place of Ben Arfa and bring Robertson back in. I can't quite see him putting Robertson on the bench.
 
Bearing in mind how strong the squad is looking I wonder if Assam is wishing he'd vetoed the move for Snodgrass. He's probably thinking he could have trousered the millions. It wouldn't have helped his relationship with Bruce of course.
