Have been relegated from the Argentine 1st Division. <yikes>

A major shock in world football, possibly the biggest since I've been following the beautiful game (along with Juventus' demotion to Serie B for match-fixing).

Can anyone ever see this happening in this country? A Manchester United, Liverpool, Arsenal or Chelsea getting relegated?
 
Tbh its being coming for a while, their system is just stupid the team with the lowest average points over three seasons so they pretty much have the system how they want, their is no way a club of their size should go down with the system they have. Tbh i can see it happening here one day to someone like Chelsea/Spurs/Man City if they get in financial difficulty after their owner leaves you never know.

I agree about the system. I'd always see a few games from Argentina and Brazil and think it'd be a great area of football to get into, but the crazy league system/s put me off.

River Plate have won 33 Leauge Titles and never been relegated to the 2nd tier before. Their rivalry with Boca is probably the biggest in the world after Barca-Real, they're known across the world as a massive, massive club, etc...

A lot of football fans in England would have never even heard of them.

Apparently a guy dropped dead at the final whistle.
 
And yet a club that only won one major trophy in the last 7 years. Can't say that for Man Utd, guess you can just about say that for Arsenal?

Its hard to get into for me, as i love reading about it and i know the system briefly, but if i can't get to see the action regularly it just annoys me and puts me off. If i could watch it regularly i would love to get involved with it.

Man United got relegated in 1973-74, think it was Denis Laws backheel which sent them down which rubbed salt in the wounds, so it does happen. Liverpool looked a bit shaky recently but seem to overcome it, I was half thinking they might be the next big name to go down at one point

Wouldn't Man United have gone down anyway? I'm sure the 'Law sent them down' thing is a classic example of bending the truth (ask someone older though!). Seeing a Leeds or Newcastle go down really isn't the same thing, maybe even Chelsea. The only clubs you can really compare to River Plate, and their position in Argentine football, is Liverpool or Man United (at a stretch, Arsenal).
