Not necessairly acceptable but it's near enough impossible to tell the future success of a player until they join. If truth be told, upon signing Njie and GKN, the clips off of YouTube made them look like really good buys in terms of potential.

I've said for a while that with regards to Paulinho, that was more the manager's fault than the player in terms of his failings. AVB ruined him. Paulinho - as shown at Barca - is a box to box midfielder with an eye for goal yet AVB wanted him to be a DM in a rigid formation.

I think Sissoko was signed purely based on the Euros, where admittedly he was excellent. I suppose the club hoped that Sissoko would be the one that turned up for us, not the one who looks like he's won a raffle competition to play for a Premier League club.

I think what's different now though is that we don't need to look at young squad fillers or taking risks on unproven players, we've got a bit of dough behind us, along with CL and the new stadium to attract more established players. This should be an interesting and exciting window.

Come on bro, im hoping who ever signs these players does a bit more research than YouTube. We signed Sissoko in the last hour of the transfer window from under the noses of Everton. That does not seem like the way to buy a player we think is essential.

What I'm really trying to get at here I suppose is that for all that Levy has done for us, If he's not prepared to take us that next level up then he should sell up, thank you very much for helping us but you're not interested in taking the next step...sell up mate, you'll get your money back no probs. I understand the aim is for organic growth however something stinks of fertiliser if we are charging the biggest ticket prices yet still tens of millions of pounds behind the teams around us when it comes to wages and being shy when going for some serious top talent. This is the summer we need to spend, let's not forget, footballers age and it is a short career so I don't think people will hang about in the hope that we might hit the sweet spot one day.

I also understand we have a stadium to pay for but for me the money is still there...id rather Toby got a wage rise than Levy helping himself to one or indeed Joe granting him one. Ultimately for me it's about the badge...that needs to come first...on field success. About time Levy started to speculate to accumulate. What more does Poch need to do to give him the confidence that he is the right man to speculate with? 3 seasons in a row in the top 3 and always hitting our ceiling when it comes to on field success but never being able to go that step further. Poch needs help or I won't be surprised if he walks sooner than we all want.

In terms of N'Jie and N'Koudou they were never anything more than squad players, who could maybe add an extra dimension to the team with their pace - but both of them failed for different reasons, N'Jie because he was reportedly slacking off in training (which is a big no-no with Poch) while N'Koudou seemed to be perpetually injured to the point it was as much a waste of his time for him to stay as little more than a walking meme. Either way, neither should really be judged by the same criteria of, say, Paulinho or Fazio as they were expected to be first team players.

Seriously someone needs the tin tack if they can't even purchase a player with the right temperament to train, honestly, yet we talk about winning leagues. Poch got rid, that's fine, which idiot buys these people? Give me someone like Milner anyday and I dont need no extensive research to know that he is a model pro.

One thing that's always seemed to be an issue with our player recruitment is our approach to squad players can be summed up with just two words: "good enough." There's no other way to explain the logic behind signing the likes of Danny Murphy, Ricardo Rocha, Michael Brown, Andy Sinton, Ruel Fox, Grzegorz Rasiak, Steven Pienaar and countless others over the years.

That's the problem, though: squad players shouldn't be "good enough" but be good enough to do a job when you need them to do one. There's a reason I always cite Wes Brown, John O'Shea and Johnny Evans at Man Utd, as none of them were on the same level as their first team counterparts, but all could be expected to come in and do a job when they were called upon. In comparison we really haven't had that many players we can say the same about: Teemu Tainio could certainly come into the side and do a job, while Jamie O'Hara wasn't up to much as a starter but a useful sub who'd inject something into the team, but by and large our squad signings end up supplanting stuttering first teamers (which is what Dele Alli, Eric Dier and Simon Davies all did) or a player signed for the first team ends up being a far better option from the bench like Pavlyuchenko was.

That's true that..them United players came off the bench and played better than most first teamers. Yet seemed to be very poor first teamers at other clubs. So to me that suggests the mentality within the club...including our own, unfortunately, because we have players that were piss poor at Spurs but fine elsewhere. Someone somewhere is getting things wrong at the club

Lol of course these guys aren't using YouTube, I'm just saying that's what I use when looking at players I've not heard of at the time - like GK and Njie.

We were linked with Sissoko earlier in the window though, we just completed the deal at last minute, maybe there was someone else we were chasing but didn't work out for whatever reason and so we took the backup option in Moussa?

I disagree about Toby tbh. He's already been offered £130k but rejected it, that sort of money would put him on more than Kompany, Hummels, Boateng and Chiellini... Yet he's supposedly asking for £180k which means only two CBs on the planet would be earning more - Thiago Silva and Sergio Ramos. As good as Toby is, he hasn't earnt nor is he worth that sort of money.

What gives you the impression Levy hasn't already backed/ been backing Poch? Poch has always said how well he gets on with Levy. One of the main reasons that Poch left Saints (other than us being bigger) is because Cortese left the club who he was very close with, if Levy and him weren't getting on or he felt he weren't getting backed he could've easily left and been snapped up immediately.

I think Levy's done wonders for us and I hold no grudges at him giving himself a massive pay rise, the trophy cabinet may not be saying much but our progress has been phenomenal under him and the next phase is literally a few months away with the new stadium, only clubs with billionnaire sugar daddies have made better progression than us.

I also agree Levy has backed Poch, of course he has. However, taking into account Poch's mutterings...Levy is going to have to back Poch in a way that is quite unprecedented at our club. I for some reason seem to lack the faith that this will happen. A lot of it based on our past experiences in the transfer market where we sign ok players but not quite what our team needed there and then. I feel as though we are at a 'there and then' situation now and this Summer we have to buck some trends. Levy's money making skills, which I totally admire from a business perspective, don't give me the confidence that Levy will loosen them purse strings enough to help us get there quite as quickly as I seriously think we need them. It could be due to the stadium, it could just be balancing the books in Levy's world(because I believe we need to take a chance and have the money to do so this summer) or just the way I believe Levy has always operated, but i am a bit nervy about wether it will happen. Like I say, our golden generation is getting older and into year 3, don't forget, there's not much loyalty in football. Fergie kept his team's together because he was winning trophies. Success breeds success on the pitch so that results in attracting quality. We are not winning trophies, I believe we can though, with a few top notch players in key areas. I don't think we have the time to buy players who have the potential to be top notch in 3 years time....this is our Summer, for me. Plus it's a new stadium...we love The Lane but it carried an aura of a team that didn't win much. I want people to come to our new stadium and see it as a stadium of winners, not 'it's only Tottenham'.

So Levy needs to do a bit more this Summer...I know Uncle Joe and Levy have got the money and can be confident of getting it all back because we have a loyal fanbase who will fill the Stadium so as I keep on saying...time for Levy to speculate to accumulate because between Poch and his consistent top 3 finishes and our loyal fanbase..we are ready to generate lots of money for Uncle Joe...so why is he not confident in taking the risk this summer? Don't forget, success on the pitch brings more income. For me, Levy is breaking this potential circle of success. Come on DH, I'm not talking about some mid table ****e who have a party when they get to 40 points, we can go places, already are.

Be brave Levy, Poch is right <ok>

I agree with most of what you've said here, mate. And I've already mentioned loads of times that this is a massive window for us, this is arguably our biggest ever window in the Premier League era and that's why - unlike most of you pessimistic ****ers lol - I do think we'll spend big.

Our golden generation won't be a golden generation if we continue to stumble in the big moments and I think Poch and Levy acknowledge that we're one or two elite level players short of going from semi final losers/ cup final runners up, to being the winners.

We're in a unique situation this window, one we've never been in before. It ain't every year you have a brand spanking new stadium to move into and I think Danny Boy will capitalise on that by bringing in a marquee signing to go along with it. I ain't saying to expect a bid for Neymar but I'd have a forum wager with anyone - an avatar/ sig bet - that we'll sign at least one player that'll get Spurs fans massively excited. It wouldn't surprise if it ends up being someone that we've not even been linked with yet. So far the likes of Seri, Milinkovic-Savic, Pulisic, Bale, de Ligt and Sessegnon have all been mentioned, anyone of those would get Spurs fans' drooling (especially either one of the CMs who we desperately need) but there's plenty of players out there who can generate similar buzz levels and IIRC last summer it was well documented that Spurs were instructing no one to leak things to the press so I reckon that could be similar this season.

Have some faith, bro ;)
