Classic smash 'n grab football by L' pool. They got the first goal then just sat back, let Everton come at them, and whacked them with lightening fast breaks. Some of Everton's defending was laughable though.
It is Goon destiny to contest the PL 4th place Cup on the last day of the season with Spurs. The journey to that point is always interesting. But the destination is known in advance.
Good question, don't think I've ever seen Gerrard physically give the ball to someone else to take the penalty. Hope Sturridge practices before the WC!!
I dunno, I can see them getting caught up in the mix for 4th still. I said before that their away games against Liverpool and Soton were going to be telling for them. Now I look at it and if they beat Liverpool then fair enough, I can't see them finishing outside the top 3 but if not they're heading into bad form at the very worst time. In the 2 months after the Liverpool game they play United, Us, Chelsea, City, Bayern twice, Liverpool, Everton and more cup games if they progress. That's 8 big games in 8 weeks, plenty of opportunity for their momentum to be stopped.
I guess alot will depend on Ramsey recovering his pre injury form as if they had him against Saints in his previous form, no doubt he would have scored a wonder goal to win the game. That's why if Arsenal have Ramsey and Carzola in form then it will keep them from dropping too far off. With us to finish 4th and the scouse Duo behind? Probably Wishful thinking!
Not our rivals but have to mention how impressive Palace have been since Pulis took over. Another clean sheet and Pulis will be grinning as he moves ahead of Stoke.
Pulis, the new Harry Redknapp, the relegation avoider. But seriously, Pulis should be England manager, he gets **** organised and playing well.
I'm not saying Pool didn't deserve the points, clearly they did. But they have also had a lot of luck in that Sewerage stayed with them, and you can forget all this 'we stood firm' rubbish until they stand firm against the media onslaught that a Real bid attracts. Also IMHO it's been lucky that they've scored first so often - I'd like to see their stats when they haven't. Of course people will argue that it's entirely skill that they score first but I think there's far more randomness going on here than people admit. Pundits (and its a human trait anyway) with so much time to fill are always making predictions based on trends that do not always exist, but are just a repeating pattern over a few matches. Every team tries to score first (unless they're playing for a bore draw), so it's not necessarily skill if you happen to meet a lot of teams on their bad day. Who would have predicted that Everton (or us) would be so bad on the day that Pool played them? Is is skill or is it luck? I think it's more luck of the fixtures than we think.
Exactly, why do we all spend 100's of millions on these talented players when the game is 100% down to luck, just get 22 players from the local pub team and buy them each a rabbit foot to wear round their necks and BAM....you have a champions League winning team......
I think there's a lot of luck in sport. But Liverpool have scored 57 goals in 23 PL games. We have 29 in 22. So on average they score twice as many as us EVERY GAME. Luck?
Liverpool have definitely been better than us performance wise over the course of the season. Having two in-form strikers of course helps that but nonetheless, their goals scored ratio eclipses ours. One thing I will say, is that on Robbie Savage's recent BBC column about how we should attack City tonight, he has a stats table where it shows that in the past 6 games under Tim, we've actually scored the most goals in the League with also the best goals to shots ratio. Hopefully things are beginning to turn in our favour now and the second half of the season will be a lot more productive than the first.
Liverpool have not been particularly lucky i don't think. They are great to watch. Remind me a bit of Harry's Spurs with quick incisive breaks and PACE. Their defence is suspect, but who cares when you score 3, 4, 5 goals? Letting in 2 isn't a problem. Suarez is better than Bale was last season. Probably only Ronaldo ahead of him from the prem era.
