He played alongside Paulinho in the Confederations Cup. Great signing for them if they get him. I guess Wenger has finally realised that every squad needs at least one defensive midfielder and not just someone shoe horned into that position, like Arteta

So, he's cheaper and less good (didn't get 3rd best player in the comp)? Thats fine by me, lol

I also don't get Arsenal fans wanting Suarez. Forget about anything to do with morals, and consider it as a practical matter. What are the chances this comes back to bite you in the ass (discounting the chance it will bite you somewhere else)?

And besides, I really hadn't thought of Arsenal fans as lacking moral integrity (compared to most fans, anyway.) I can honestly say the seemingly overwhelming support for getting the likes of Suarez disappoints me.

<yikes>
You serious!

They're the worst fans on the face of the Earth for that kind of thing, with the sole exception of 'Pool fans. Have you not read the drivel posted by the likes of PESKIE and Arsenal87?

Gustavo is quality. He's been playing in what arguably has been the best European club side for the last two years. If it wasn't for Pep bringing his old pal Thiago to Bayern then Gustavo would be first choice. Different type of player then Paulinho, but to be absolutely honest, I'd rather have Gustavo. We have plenty of MF players who can attack, what we need is one who is disciplined enough to stay back and protect the back four.

As for Suarez, I'm not sure if it will happen. There are rumours that we are in for Benzema, which would only seem plausible if Real were going to buy a striker i.e. Suarez. I would imagine that contrary to their public stance, Liverpool are hawking Suarez to Real as we speak, knowing that he's finished at Pool and Arsenal are the only club who have bid for him.

Of course you'd say that but if I'm absolutely honest I'd rather have paulinho, or Sandro

I like that Paulinho has an eye for a goal - something we've lacked from midfield. I'd also much rather have Sandro than Gustavo for the simple reaon that he's proven in the Prem, has a great attitude, one of the most popular figures at the club, and our best player last year up until his injury. This isn't to say that I don't rate Gustavo because I do.

I think it comes down to what our clubs need. We have got plenty of attacking MF players, our problem has been keeping them back to shield the back four, Whereas you need a MF player who can score from MF. I rate Paulinho and Sandro is proven in them prem, but I would still say that Gustavo is the better player. If we do sign him, it will also allow Wilshere and Arteta to play a more creative attacking game.

Gustavo was behind Kroos, Schweinstiger and Javi Martinez at Bayern last season. It's no disgrace to be second choice at Bayern and he still got games but Thiago's not replacing him in the first team.

He's a quality and just what you need but he's not and has never been some integral cog in the Bayern side.

... He's not better than Sandro though :p

Correct, he played 16 times last season, Thiago just pushed him back further because he is Peps man.

Gustavo (whoever he is) will end up exactly the same way as Arshavin, being sold cheaply in two or three seasons' time.

Mark my words.
