I can't see much of an upside being in the Europa league. More matches, playing on Thursdays, stretching our squad to the limits. Ok yes we have a chance of winning it but to progress as a club we will never hold onto our best players or attract the best players playing in it.

This "more games" thing is massively overrated, CJ. It's 1 more fixture, should you make it to the final.

We won't attract the best players, until we stop selling our best players and invest some money to get in the CL! We are constantly sorting out gaps in our first team.

It looks like we might miss out on CL football for 3 seasons out of 4. At a supposed £30 mill in revenue each year for being in it, we've missed out on £90m. Sometimes you've got to invest to get a return on your money. But we're only prepared to invest money from the sales of our best players. What do we get each season? Deja vu.

Yep, neither Toon nor the Mackems will be remotely interested in our cause, which is of course our own fault, Europa League again it is.

Newcastle fan here, our last two home games were the 6-0 to Liverpool and the 3-0 to Sunderland...

The players and staff owe the fans a good performance so all is not lost yet :)

This is why I don't understand the fans that want to be out of it straight away. At least we've got a chance, as we proved this year. Just like arsenal, we don't have a chance in the CL.

We tried to win it this year and weren't good enough, Chelsea have coped first time with all the Thursday/Sunday bullshit and gone to the final, and are likely to finish 3rd. We on the other hand over the season, are going to be one result short...pick your game!

Ok so why are you happy with that? Our chairman fires a manager who was reasonably well equipped with a good squad and got us top 4 twice. He replaces him with a manager who in my opinion has been under equipped and at the time of writing, looks like he may not finish 4th but is guaranteed at least 5th. More long journeys to far flung European cities for Thursday night games which in my view, have actually been the root cause of our failure to qualify for the CL and finish top 4.

Losing to Liverpool and Fulham in between the Inter Milan games ring any bells?

I'm in it for the glory not my teams bank balance. We have NO chance of winning CL, but we do EL. does that mean I'd prefer EL? No, because in the long run the CL is better. But will I be all eggy and moany if we don't make it? No, I'll be fairly happy.
If you choose to see the negatives in everything then go ahead

Purely down to strength in depth NotSo. Chelsea invest in proven quality. We scrape the barrel on August 31st!

Hope so mate. I like you guys, and your passion for the game. I think your manager is a dick, however.

Chelsea have the squad to cope,we don't

Come on Newcastle! <laugh>

If that fails it's back to hoping Bayern win the CL final and that somehow means Chelsea don't get in again :(

So if we'd have been prepared for the start of the season and had beaten Newcastle 2:1 rather than losing by the same score, what would the table look like now Mr Levy?

Chelsea clearly have a far stronger squad than we do. Our first 11 can match any team but once you start to get injuries then the weakness of our squad really starts to show. For example Parker and Dawson, good players that they are, are not at the same level as Sandro and Kaboul.

I gave you guys stick when you went down (though praise when you came back up), but I will support you as my second team for the whole of next season, if you get a result against the Gunners.

Unfortunately, I don't think you have it in you.

I'd rather be in something which we can win. it's been 5 years since we won a trophy and I want some glory.

If I was an arsenal fan, I'd be tearing my hear out after 9 years without a trophy and the way they've gone from being incredible to just settling for the minimum that's needed.

Spurm, I understand your sentiment but without ambition, what's the point? Isn't that about glory? Glory isn't trying to win a lesser trophy, glory is about over achieving - to dare is to do. Not to settle for second best. I'm not asking for our club to become Man City and buy every mercenary or money grabber out there. I just wished our Chairman was more astute as finding true quality, not having a punt for a lower fee and then blaming his manager when it all goes belly up. That shows he's conceited.

I agree Deedub it's the start of the season that has killed us this year as it did last year although admittedly we were unlucky with Chelsea actually winning the CL.
I also blame Adebayor for playing like a lazy tosser for over half the season.

All is not yet lost but goodbye Wigan. I thought you'd go down within 2 years of promotion but you lasted longer than I expected you to. You never replaced harry Jewell did you?
