After all those years when I would have been popping open bottles of champagne to see the back of him, to have him go now is slightly disappointing in a perverse way. He turned up when we were entering those dreadful, rudderless Sugar years. Jurgen had come and gone, Teddy shortly after...and Judas. The seemingly endless run of dreadful managers, poor signings and terrible, terrible football. To anyone, like CK, who became supporters during those years...I salute you.

Three managers in Wenger's second decade marked the turn of the tide. Martin Jol showed that we could challenge them. Harry showed that we could beat them and do it at their place and Mauricio Pochettino has us finishing above them and taking possession of Wenger's coveted CL place. That is what's finished him. Like United with LVG, Arsenal can't keep a manager that fails to deliver that CL money [It'll be what kills the PL as we currently know it too.]

Despite those 3 managers being the creators of the story of where we are today, it was a different manager who was at the helm for THE game that marked the turning of the tide. Danny Kelly likened that night to the freeing of a long oppressed people...these highlights really should play to 'Exodus'. After this night, things were never the same....

The name of the the next Arsenal manager is much more likely to end in an a or an i or an o then a w.

I'm not so sure. There's much, much less anger these days. After the recent Bournemouth loss, there was just resignation. All the fight's gone out of 'em.

With a new manager comes new hope of success and fear of failure. If they start slowly under whoever takes over, then it'll be a complete meltdown of regret. If they can flog off the current players and make a fast start then they'll be as cocky as hell. Then when it gets to Christmas...

I bet Mesut Ozil's not looking forward to all that running and paring back his mid-season vacations.
 
Can only see this being bad for Arsenal. To me it feels similar to the way Fergie left Utd, granted Fergie had just won the Prem but his team were ageing, an overhaul was soon needed and he probably felt that at his age he couldn't be ****ed to do it so left it to someone else, it's now similar for Wenger and Arsenal, there are so many players in that squad that just aren't good enough for a team of their aspirations and stature and they'll need big investment to get to where they'll wanna be.

Pretty much a whole new back line is needed and also two top quality CMs.

Agreed. There is a massive overhaul operation needed there to make them competitive again.

They have mountains of cash so best case scenario is that they fail to win the Europa so that they don't have CL football to offer on top of obscene wages.

They've brought in a German management support team, and a bunch of Germans or previously German-based players such as Aubameyang. M'Khitaryan, Ozil, Mustafi, xhaka and Kolasinac. So, a German manager makes sense. Now that Tuchel's at PSG, the likely candidate is Joachim Low? If it is him, that would be a big gamble.He's probably had enough of managing and coaching Germany's national team after 14 years.

I hope it's him and he makes a spectacular bollocks of it. All said with the best of intentions and good wishes, of course. <cheers>
