Everyone needs to stop giving Barton any attention. He's smarter than most footballers but his mouth's still bigger than his brains so he talks a lot of **** for the sake of talking **** and generally he's just a bit of an asshole. He's pretty much the Mourinho of the players but without any of the success.
He's smarter than most footballers but still a lot dumber than most people i'd say. Copying and pasting philosophical quotes does not make you intelligent.
The opinionated one; I think that marks him out. What's the point of saying things about Rooney from his position in a Championship play-off contender's team? Why would we want to listen to what he thinks about an individual player? What is "world class" anyway? Does it matter? It's a team game. Individual players can only ever be judged by the strength of the others they play with and against. We can all see that Messi and Ronaldo are exceptional talents (although neither has yet influenced the outcome of a major international competition), but what separates the best of the rest? Rooney has consistently been one of the best half dozen players in a tough PL for a decade (probably the most influential, along with Lampard, over that prolonged period), he does a lot of the unglamourous work (tackling back, playing out of position) unselfishly, he contributes goals and assists regularly in a struggling team and few, if any, teams would not be interested in having him if he was available. Mourinho may well think Chelsea's chances of winning something this season would be considerably better had he been able to sign Rooney last summer when he tried. His record in the CL is as good as any player outside Barcelona and the current Bayern Munich team. His record compared to other England players of the last 30 years is favourable, but no England player will ever have any influence at international level until the overall standard of the team is improved so that teams like Spain, Holland, Germany, Brazil and Argentina don't hold such a massive advantage in skills and techical ability.
Why not say things about Rooney? What makes him removed from criticism in a way that all other players are? Barton has as much right to make his view known as any other player, pundit or fan. If you don't like what he says then just move on. Its his opinion.
Barton does seem to like the sound of his own voice. He is also very opinionated. I suppose, given his background, his efforts to improve his education should be applauded. He does, however, seem to be spilling over into a kind of pseudo-intellectual psycho babble. I also think PNP has a fair point. The media seek him out as they can reasonably expect a controversial headline, or two.
Fair enough, but what about the opinions of other over the hill QPR players? Dunne, for example? We never get to read them. Just gobs***e Barton.
Purely because the media seek him out because of his rep whereas nobody would react to whatever Dunne said. He may be wrong, he may be right but if you were paid to say it would you turn the offer down?
And the award for today's most illogical reporting in a transfer rumour goes to the Express for this little nugget of: Andre Villas-Boas wants to be reunited with Tottenham defender Jan Vertonghen, 26, at Zenit St Petersburg in a move that could pave the way for Manchester United to sign Ezequiel Garay, 27, from Benfica. So...how can Zenit buying a defender from Spurs be in any way linked to Man Utd signing a defender from Benfica? It's a transfer story, and a pretty lazy one made up to fill some space at that, not chaos theory!
I saw that and was equally bemused. Also not sure Vertonghen would follow AVB to the frozen east, hardly a career progression.
apparently,Zenit had a deal to sign Garay, and Benfica pulled out at the last minute,so if Zenit change their target to Verts,United can bid for Garay
What I find hilarious about the £ity v Saints game is that you just know that, over on the Mouser board, they would have all been jumping up and down when Saints equalized, giving large about how 'Pool is going to win the league, etc. And then, a mere minutes later, that little dream is crushed, not once, but twice.
Offside??....it was so far offside, it's one of the worst decisions I've ever seen! Minimum 4-5 yards offside.
