And having been ticked off on the RIP thread previously, no doubt the same might happen again.

But how and why did we let thoroughly decent polite respectful young men like Lian Rosenoir and Alex Bruce leave what was once our club?

    Cyrille Regis, Rest in Peace.

    Fair enough.

Mods, can you please lock the Sunderland MOTM thread. It appears it’s not something the board is interested in any more.

IIRC he was playing for Blackpool when we beat them in the cup in 1971.

    RIP Jimmy

From the Johnny Haynes, Billy Wright era, another England legend has left us more bereft of those footballers from a different age and era. RIP Jimmy, condolences to the family and Blackpool AFC.

That is sad news Jimmy Armfield passing away, always a good pundit on BBC radio for many years, and a very good player in his time. In a Blackpool team that was a really good side during his player time, with Matthews et al. RIP

Barnsley Football Club are devastated to announce that Mr Patrick Cryne has passed away over the weekend at the age of 66.

Mr Cryne had been battling cancer since November 2016.

Club Custodian for 14 years and widely regarded amongst the loyal fan base as the ‘saviour’ of the Club since taking control in 2003, Mr Cryne has been held in the highest of regards both at Barnsley Football Club and across the footballing world.

Born and raised in the town of Barnsley, Mr Cryne’s earliest footballing memories date back to over 60 years ago where a first appearance at Oakwell with his Uncle Ernest caught the imagination, allowing for a lifetime of dedication to Barnsley Football Club in any way possible. This dedication and love, truly earned Patrick the tag as ‘one of our own.’

Mr Patrick Cryne will be deeply and sadly missed by everybody connected to the Club and we are all sending our deepest condolences to his wife Jean, son James and the rest of his close family.

The Club fully acknowledges that this news will be deeply upsetting to many people but we ask for privacy at this painful time.

The era of one club players. Maximum wage meant a lot of players stayed at one club, especially if It was their home town one. The last season before the abolition of the maximum wage saw Ipswich as Champions with Burnley runners up. The previous five seasons saw Burnley and Wolves as Champions with the double winning Spurs side being the only big club. The five years after the abolition of the maximum wage saw Everton, Man Utd, Liverpool and Man City as the champions.
Modern players get the money but they will never be regarded with the affection that Armfield, Finney, Lofthouse and others were.
