I have clear memories of the tragedy and I occasionally wonder what became of Harry Eddoms, the lone survivor, and if he asked, "Why me?"
Another of those cases where our petty problems are put in perspective. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-5262843/Boy-pictured-holding-baby-sister-day-died.html
I knew Harry Eddom very well, after the tragedy he came to work for the trawling company I worked for, so saw him every trip. He had a tough time in the aftermath, many blamed him for saving his own skin and not trying to save others. He was hounded by the media for quite a long time after that for his story, and I can't remember whether he did finally cave in to pressure to give it. From what he told me the claims were very unfair, and that he did try to help others, but he was just the lucky one to survive. As far as I remember he worked for the company I worked for until the fishing industry finished and may well have gone on to man oil rig supply vessels, which many trawlers and their crew went onto after their fishing possibilities ended.
Rick Jolly RIP. For those of you who don't know, this is what a hero looks like. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-cornwall-42682005

Just watching SKY news. Some silly bint saying she wasn't a football fan but does remember when shecwas growing up hearing the song " Nice one, Cyril" and proceeding to sing it. The presenter agreed before a few moments later, obviously having received some information through his earphones, murmuring that perhaps that song was about Cyril Knowles.Oh, dear...
