Remember it well, that was some day out eh ? How long did it take to get there, eight hours ? City won that game 2-0 and our little gang of mates marched out of Carrow Road singing 'City, City, top of the league...' Such happy memories of a great time, watching a great team, with great mates and our greatest every centre forward alongside the magical Waggy.
Wembley aside,I don't think I've ever had that buzz of excitement that I had back in the late 60's/early 70's.I started going in 69 and was immediately hooked on the players on show, our cavalier approach to the game, our Club colours, and the atmosphere at Boothferry Park.Even the walk from Beverley Road was exciting as crowds swelled along the journey...In later days the train from Driffield with my mates was equally exciting!!

I had the pleasure of watching Chris Chilton for his last couple of years with the Club, alongside other greats(Wagstaff,Houghton,McGill,Knighton,McKechnie,Banks,Neill,Kaye,Pearson to name but a few)...

I have to admit that the sterile atmosphere of the modern stadium will never be an adequate substitute for my first foray into Football, although a good away game comes close on occasion.

I look forward to Football becoming available to us all again,,hopefully in the near future, and we'll reminisce for years to come about some of the greats who wore our colours,Chilton being a name that will forever be on the tip of our tongues!!!

That was a strong side Leeds put out, good on them. What was the score?
Summat like 7-5, but honestly can't recall. Fun had by all, and I can't even remember the attendance figure. Think ex-Tiger Revie told his boys to hold off the gas. In fact, I think they had a very important match to play the following week?

Hull City 7-6 Leeds United - Crowd (28,250)

For Leeds Jack Charlton scored twice, Mick Jones and Norman Hunter also got one each and Rod Belfitt scored twice after coming on as a substitute, times unknown. For Hull City, Chris Chilton and Ken Wagstaff both scored hat-tricks and goalkeeper Ian McKechnie got the other when he was playing in the outfield in place of Ian Butler.

Just recalled - LUFC had the previous week just beaten Liverpool in a 2 legged semi-final to get to the Inter-Cities Fairs Cup final. Leeds won the 2 legged final (after one leg had been abandoned - waterlogged pitch - 3rd game gave Leeds a win against Juventus on away goals (2-2 in Turin, 1-1 at Elland Rd). First leg of final was 3 weeks after the Chillo testimonial game @ B.P. Still commendable that Leeds brought their strongest team to C.C.'s match. A measure of how well he was regarded in the game.

Well- remembered.
Did anyone remember that the either 1st or the 2nd half was played without the off side rule as an experiment ? It was also the night the South Stand 'choir' moved en-mass into the East Stand ( Kempton) for the first time. Dave Dewberry handed out printed song sheets with the particular favourite of the time 'knock kneed chicken..' It was an outstanding success.
Arsenal won the 1st division title that night snatching it from Leeds.

Who scored the goal that gave Arsenal the title?

Fine looking lady, shame she married a scrote like JFK, then the equally scrotish Onassis.
My missus and I were on holiday in Corfu when they were filming "The Greek Tycoon", with Anthony Quinn & Jaqueline Bisset. We both got jobs as "extras". The missus stood around all day in the heat only for here "brief" shot on celluloid to end up on the cutting room floor.
My shot in the beach bar scene led to me ending up on the bar floor. Drinking free all day for minimum wages. We ended up chatting to the two stars in a small roadside restaurant a few days later. No-one else around - lovely experience as they were both very unassuming people. They were playing chess at the time but didn't mind our short interruption.

Have some photos of them somewhere.

I think Arsenal were playing the same night and if they won they were Champions, if they didn't Leeds were. Seem to recall joyous scenes among City fans when the news came through Arsenal had scored.

Hadn't seen a couple of answers above when I wrote that.<doh>

On the night of his testimonial I was stood outside the portacabin office on Boothferry road, about an hour before kick off waiting for my mate. Chris Chilton appeared from the office and saw me, a young lad looking starstruck at his hero unable to say or do anything. He just grinned and came over to me and asked if I wanted his autograph. I just nodded and he took a pen from his jacket pocket and signed my programme. I couldn’t even murmur a thank you.
Mate that is so similar to my own experience of seeing him on the West stand concourse, for the first game there, a friendly v Sunlan. He was with his Missus and a few family and friends. I recognised him instantly and he recognised the fact that I was really star struck because my mouth was wide open. He simply said "Hi" and trust me I've met way more famous people than Chillo without batting an eyelid. But for some reason, I couldn't even say hello, never mind get an autograph. I don't know why, but I was speechless and that was me aged 37
