Wembley aside,I don't think I've ever had that buzz of excitement that I had back in the late 60's/early 70's.I started going in 69 and was immediately hooked on the players on show, our cavalier approach to the game, our Club colours, and the atmosphere at Boothferry Park.Even the walk from Beverley Road was exciting as crowds swelled along the journey...In later days the train from Driffield with my mates was equally exciting!!Remember it well, that was some day out eh ? How long did it take to get there, eight hours ? City won that game 2-0 and our little gang of mates marched out of Carrow Road singing 'City, City, top of the league...' Such happy memories of a great time, watching a great team, with great mates and our greatest every centre forward alongside the magical Waggy.
I had the pleasure of watching Chris Chilton for his last couple of years with the Club, alongside other greats(Wagstaff,Houghton,McGill,Knighton,McKechnie,Banks,Neill,Kaye,Pearson to name but a few)...
I have to admit that the sterile atmosphere of the modern stadium will never be an adequate substitute for my first foray into Football, although a good away game comes close on occasion.
I look forward to Football becoming available to us all again,,hopefully in the near future, and we'll reminisce for years to come about some of the greats who wore our colours,Chilton being a name that will forever be on the tip of our tongues!!!
