We played poorly againsy Burnley, but the other games are two wins and two draws. Too early to read the future as yet, but for the moment,100% support for the man in charge. I'm off to Dartford v Macclesfield saturday, but I'll be pinned to the radio for the Derby updates!
I feel like I'm the only person saying it (although Kevin Nolan's report mentions no quality whatsoever) but we played poorly against Forest too.
Obviously complete support for the man in charge. I hope he does secure the Championship status
I didn't think the Forest showing was particularly magnificent in regards to quality (simply because we don't have much), but it was a decent performance considering Saturday's thumping; the levels of commitment, fight and teamwork were excellent.
Under Riga the football has not been scintillating, but there has been an upturn in momentum and tactical stability.
Reading JJ's comments on twitter there was always a good rapport between Powell and the players, where was the evidence to suggest otherwise?. You'd expect a new manager to get a warm welcome whoever it is as the players should be professional.
Why wouldn't we have without the players he wanted eg Kermorgant or had his other targets come in at the start of this season. It's a bit like saying we're certain to stay up under Jose Riga when we don't know because the other teams below have been scoring more goals in their wins. The newcomers haven't really been scoring many goals had they?
Right, we have all had long enough to whinge at each other for this and that, some liked Powell some did not. I think many people have got the wrong end of the stick from each other due to posts with a lot of emotion and to be fair, it is hardly surprising with the season we have had.
After a long season so far, and my annoyance at Powells sacking, i have realised something. Whilst i still believe Powell is a good manager and was not to blame for the mess, the bigger picture is that not one single person can be blamed for any of it. Not Powell, not RD, not Slater or Jimenez. Several things have been not quite right, and when you add those up, you get a very sketchy situation. When you take it all in, things were destined to go hairy somewhere, and unfortunately for us so much went wrong at the same time. Player sales, lack of investment in the squad, unrest amongst fans, confusion in the dressing room and a new board that replaced one that was in a right state to begin with.
The players needed reassurance of what was going on to focus on the task at hand, and sadly, Powell could not offer that because he simply didn't know himself. It now seems RD got off to a very wobbly start and did not quite realise what he was getting into, and the timing of it all couldn't have been worse. When things became clearer, it was too late in his eyes to stick with Powell because something HAD to change. Again due to the timing, the only change he could make was who manages the team. I will always respect Powell, both as a player and a manager, because he has never been anything other than fully committed to this club. I wish him well and would not be surprised to see him work for the club again one day. But for now, Powell is gone. The club and he are both moving on so it is about time we all do as well.
Riga is showing he is not a bad manager himself, and has most importantly been able to give the players a lift because he knows what is going on now, and it is starting to feel like everyone is now on the same page. First and foremost, we are Charlton fans, so whilst we may have disagreements i think it is about time the name calling and odd grouping of fans who fit certain criteria stops. We stay up, we rebuild, we go again. Give it 12 months and this could all be looked back on as an unfortunate step of our recent history, and sometimes you have to step backwards or to the side to get around obstacles and progress.
Lets hope we carry on picking up points, sign up Hamer and Poyet to new deals, stay up and really give it a go in the summer. Would be nice if we were all happy for a change

Good to see you back, Jimmy. As you say, a lot of things have gone wrong, managers have come and gone, boards have come and gone, and the one man at the centre of it all is still there on the board. Richard Murray, who is a Charlton fan, and allegedly a link between the owners and the fans.

. Do you think there's any chance of an apology for the pitch, since it was his decision not to repair the drainage on the grounds of expense when we were awash with money in the Premiership? It would also have been a lot cheaper then.

Only some of his money. Anyone who has committed the sum of money that he has to the club over the years earns some respect even if we question a lot of his decisions. I doubt that even with repayment of some of the money he has lent the club he will come any where near breaking even on the deal. Only when anyone on here has invested that amount of money in the club can they challenge whether or not RM has the club at heart.
He is not like Bates at Leeds or Chelsea who ripped a good return on investment - he has lost significant sums of his own money in keeping us going and backing his own decisions. You may not like him or some of the decisions he has made but don't insult his commitment.
That's right, it's his decisions. He's living proof that the idea of a football club being run by a fan is not the good idea it seems. His arch-enemy Simon Jordan was the same. A Palace fan, he put about £40m. into his club and they ended up in administration.

Not insulting his commitment at all. Just insulting his judgement which has been monumentally, staggeringly wrong on a multitude of issues since Curbs left, from bad managerial appointments to not investing in the pitch to reducing small shareholders investments to nothing.
As long as Murray continues to hover over Charlton's corpse like Banquo's ghost then yes, I will criticise him. The bloke is a disaster.
