There's nothing worse than logging on, still on a high after the result last night, to find Vol using it as an reason to criticise Powell and those who supported him.

People look at the last 2 games of Powell's tenure as if those alone are the basis on which to judge him. The previous 2 games we'd beaten QPR and Sheffield Wednesday away. Under Riga we put in a similarly tame performance at home to Burnley as we had at Leicester.

We will never know if we would have stayed up under Powell. That alone means that Riga has not 'proved [we] were wrong'. My opinion, and that's all it is, is that we would have stayed up.

Anyway, I'm not going to let this get me down after a terrific win. Well done Riga, and well done the lads. Now let's do the other half of the East Midlands. Perhaps, like Jacko became the undisputed King of Sheffield in January 2012, Cousins can score the winner on Saturday at Derby and take his crown as King of the East Midlands?

You have got so much capital invested in Sir Chris - emotional and credibility -wise, that you will never admit that he was a duffer in his last season & we were heading down with him at the helm. Burnley aside - and they would have beaten us 6-0 under CP because he would have brought Pritchard on - we have greatly improved under Riga IMO. Goal scoring remains a problem but at least the substituions and tactics are now innovative, and designed to win a game as opposed to nicking a 0-0 under Powell.

Under Powell, "park the bus" wasn't an instruction to the team coach driver, it was the sum total of our manager's tactics.

    @ Captain,

As for "there is nothing worse than seeing a Vol post" - get a sense of perspective. In my job I unfortunately see at first hand what is going on in Syria. Not quite the same thing.

I won't admit that because there's nothing to admit. There is no way you can know that. Given that the single win over Bournemouth lifted us out of the drop zone, and the games we have in hand (and yes, I know they are no guarantee of points, but they are the possibility of getting some points) it is quite realistic to think that Powell could have got us to safety, though as I say, we will never know.

When I said there was nothing worse, I obviously did not mean that that was the worst thing imaginable. But in any case, perhaps I could have worded it better. Though the irony of you calling me out for use of language is staggering.

In which case you'll know that there's more to life than being right.

OK for "stupid" read "silly", as in doctoring your post.

God knows what you mean by that. I am merely contesting that Riga has gone some way - on limited evidence - to proving the CP devotees wrong. Do you agree with me? Don't be shy.

Yes I agree, no question, but why bother rubbing people's noses in it?

But you can compare the performances in Powell's last two games in charge - the old white flag well and truly went up the flagpole at Leicester, and the trenches flooded at Bramall Lane, with the performances that Riga has coaxed out of the same players since.

I am not. I took plenty of good natured stick from Captain, all the Teds, Jimmy etc for criticising CP. I am pointing out maybe I and others have been proved right.

As I said in my original post, the two games before that had seen us beat QPR and Sheffield Wednesday, putting in decent performances. And we put up a similar white flag against Burnley. Those 2 games you mention aren't everything.

My point is that, unless you've been to the alternate universe where Powell wasn't sacked, you cannot state as fact that we would have gone down. It's your opinion, and of course you're entitled to it and to say it as an opinion, but that's all it is.

If Riga keeps us up then he deserves credit. But that's not to say that Powell couldn't have done it either.

I haven't given you half as much stick as you've given me. I've argued your points, which you have also done with mine, but the difference is that you've also called me an others a variety of names, to which we can now add 'Powell groupies' to the list. Ad homs don't reflect well on the person making them.

Have a look at the highlights of last night's game on You Tube. I liked the interaction between Riga and the players at end. Suggests to me from the body language that there is a good rapport developing there.

From recollection you took great offence to me using the word "brigade". I have yet to comprehend why <doh>

As I always said I was ambivalent about CP, but I'm glad that he got the support of the fans, because it gave him every chance to succeed. Now we are giving Jose the same support, and it also helps his chance of succeeding. I never supported pardew because I knew he was an a******e.
