I guess it looks better in the flesh, because from those pictures it looks ****ing awful.

Do they open each morning with wire cutters and that irritating American auctioneer, surrounded by people bidding for the contents?

Hull City Council have refused planning permission for a 'container cafe' down by the Marina, on the basis that they think it's out of keeping with the area, a Councillor on Burnsy's show just described it as 'monstrous'. Obviously, it's not supposed to be in keeping, it's supposed to be a very modern structure that contrasts with the historic surroundings, so would you have approved it or not?

looks ok to me

Whereas you're wrong most of the time and nobody agrees with you.

You've yet to show me where I'm wrong. So far, all you've done is demonstrate your ignorance and poor ability at insults or debate.

A really vibrant & fab place...
That should be our aspiration with the shipping connection

haha not quite, all of the units are very well fitted out, I believe they have a nike store unit in which you can get custom made trainers while you wait, its all very posh/hipster and not at all cheap in any way.

but its certainly seen as "trendy" and saves on space and building costs.

Is the Cafe Amici on the pic the cafe on Chants Ave?
I wouldnt argue with him. He looks connected, if you know what i mean

'Just threads having snide digs at a neighbouring authority on a board with "no politics".'

OLM didn't have a snide dig at the council; he asked posters if the cafe should have received planning permission.

So you were wrong.

<doh>

Have another read, and look at the previous answer to that non-point.

Man-child never admits when he's wrong.

It's a bit of a guess, because your avoidance of debate leaves the context of your replies jumping all over, but I'm assuming 'man-child' is some quaint pet name for me. To be fair, I quite like it, but anyway, I'm more than happy to admit I'm wrong, when it happens. So far on this thread, it hasn't.

For me, debates are about coming to a concensus based on the available information. Only a ball bag would see it as some sort of popularity contest....but that's all by the by.

That doesn't explain your question, it simply confirms what I said, that quite often, people on here whinge about the council, when the issues are not really the council's responsibility.

Living in the past is possibly apt, given they argue the pod thing wasn't fitting in with the older buildings nearby. Odd given that odd looking gold building that looks fire damaged, and is now getting covered by another building, but there it is.

Nothing will please everyone, but at least the process is open to ideas and input from citizens. It just needs a few more to contribute positively with thoughts and ideas in the right place, rather than random, Ill informed whinges on a football forum.

What constitutes an ill informed whinge will be decided upon of course by DMD who is the only one well informed on every topic. Most people apparently disagree with the council, at least those who have offered an opinion, on various forums and polls. Not that anything like that will influence those taking these decisions.

There are no hard and fast rules, but a rule of thumb is, if it has "Quote= Castro's Coffin" at the top, it's a reasonable indication.

Beyond that, those nasty things like facts give a bit of a clue too.

You used to offer some good debates before, but of late it's like being in a room that has a **** record stuck on repeat. What happened to make you so bitter?

Has anyone posted what the council said??

http://www.hulldailymail.co.uk/Mons...r-caf-eacute/story-28666432-detail/story.html

Councillors said they liked the concept but criticised the quality of the design and the proposed location.
But Councillor Rilba Jones, who moved refusal, described the container as "monstrous" and claimed it would ruin open views across the marina.

"It does absolutely nothing to preserve or enhance the conservation area," she said.

Councillor John Fareham welcomed the idea of a pop-up café near the waterfront but said the proposed design was poor.

"We need to pull up the quality of design in Hull and this will not achieve that," he said.

He said other units provided by the same supplier appeared to be of much higher quality and claimed the one intended for Hull was from the "bottom end of the range".

Councillor Terry Keal said locating the café on the very edge of the marina would prevent people from walking around the former Humber Dock.

He also criticised the proposed design, saying: "If it had been a hull of a ship converted into a café or had been suggested in another location, like Queens Gardens, it might have been a different matter."

Councillor Tom McVie said it would have been better if the restaurant owners had gone through an informal pre-application process with the council to iron out issues surrounding design and location before submitting the plans for a committee decision.

Fareham and Keal are not Labour either. And the last bit shows the proposers have gone about it poorly.

Nothing in the article to indicate whether there were pre-submission discussions or not. Also what did the officers recommend to the planning committee. Discussions whilst helpful its the committee who decide for eg I assume the concert hall had officer involvement with a recommendation for approval but the members refused it.

Nah. Surely they don't make informed decisions based on facts, procedures and the bigger picture. They should just jump to conclusions from random descriptions and images. That's what gets votes.

Some of you could definitely argue in an empty room

It wouldn't be much of a surprise to find some posters spend most of their time in empty rooms.

As the wise an said, I'd hate to be with them when they were by themselves.

Which facts? Having a different perspective to DMD does not a butter person make,

Still awaiting a few of those examples of people being upset at mention of ERYC **** ups BTW.
