The QPR manager believes the former Newcastle United forward was only protecting himself when wrote to Magpies supporters

Harry Redknapp has today questioned Hatem Ben Arfa’s motives for writing an open letter to Newcastle United fans after he left the club.

Published exclusively in The Chronicle last week, the Frenchman spoke of his love for the club and supporters days after he joined Hull City on loan.

Writing in his column in The Sun, Redknapp made it clear he felt the player was being disingenuous and only protecting himself in case he ever has to play against his old club.

Redknapp said: “Hatem Ben Arfa has written an open letter to Newcastle fans thanking them for their support in a city that will be ‘forever in my heart’.

“If I was a Magpies supporter, I think I would like to write back to him and ask why he didn’t try harder more often when he played for my team.

“That aside, let’s look at Ben Arfa’s team and keep it in what football often lacks today - perspective.

“How many games did he play 50 or 60? He is not exactly Alan Shearer, Jackie Milburn or Kevin Keegan is he?

“There now seems to be a growing trend amongst modern footballers to open their hearts and pour out sugar sweet nothings to the fans they leave behind.

“You suspect that it is a cunning ploy to ensure they don’t get a barrel of abuse when they turn up in their team’s new colours, as Ben Arfa will with new club Hull later this season.”

Ben Arfa, as it happens, won’t play Newcastle this season because he is only on loan at Hull City.

I don't like Arry and can't help but think, what the f** has this got to do with him. He appears to be sticking his nose in to something for no reason. Its a strange subject pick out for your column. That said I do agree with him, the letter from HBA was completely self serving bollocks and more than a little cringeworthy. He should have tried harder the lazy little clown.

Yeah, they're both t**ts.

Redknapp should be currently in prison, sporting with a ginger wig with pig tails and being ploughed violently from behind by a very large, 300 + pound black man while he chugs the 12 inch dick of Ched Evans.

This is difficult to disagree with in all fairness.

I'd chuck HBA in there with them, for the crime of taking pay without effort. Mind the cell could get pretty crowded with Newcastle players if that is the criteria.

saggy face is wrong on this one.

firstly - hatem won't play against newcastle as part of the loan deal, so his whole reasoning falls apart on that

secondly - the fans can tell which ex-players actually do connect and which don't.

recently, Joey Barton, Kevin Nolan, Shefki Kuqi, and Hatem Ben Arfa have shown they really did enjoy their time at NUFC and felt a connection with the fans. Same could be said about the likes of Sibierski, Beye...

Not so much, Cabaye, Ba, Simpson, Routledge, Enrique, Remy, Gosling etc. - it's not an issue, they weren't all necessarily dicks about leaving, but it's just a job in the end.

I don't know, if he genuinely connected with fans he would have acted more professionally. I think he ripped the piss out the club and fans, a majority just loved him regardless what he did. I don't believe he had the universal popularity of a Nolan or Kuqi who every fan could see would run through a brick wall and loved the club (in Nolans case) or just loved the opportunity to play for Newcastle (in Kuqis case). I don't even think he managed the same widespread popularity of Barton who I think every fan appreicated his honesty as a player, but did somewhat taint his time with an outspoken end which some viewed as unprofessional.

I reckon although the majority are HBA fans, there is a good portion are suspicious of him and disappointed with his antics.

Right, can we please put an end to this now and can somebody please show me what exactly Ben Arfa did, beyond the realms of tweets or his body not looking like Cristiano Ronaldo's?

People keep telling me he acted unprofessionally... that he's this, that he's that... when we've seen from our own eyes what a two-faced, lying sack of **** Pardew and his employers can be at times... How can we have this endless debate without any substance? All we know as fact is, Ben Arfa put in some of the best individual performances of any player in a Newcastle shirt in the last few years... That he has had some kind of disagreement with the management, and was subsequently dropped. Where's the phone-tapped transcript of the conversation which goes "Hey Ben Arfa, work hard and you'll get another game?"...?

This isn't loose women, we're scientists here FFS!

He turned up for duty a fat c**t on several occasions. Wholly unprofessional. This is not made up, I witnessed his big fat belly with my own eyes. End of story really but I'll continue for the craic.

He failed to put in enough effort on several occasions. Wholly unprofessional. Granted this may have been in part because he was a fat c**t, but surely also because he is a narcissistic prick.

The highlighted bit is our fans real problem. Working hard should be a given, it should not need dangled like a carrot (or in your case a goats bum).

He contested a fine for his fatness according to his agent because it was muscle not fat. He does not seem to understand that being given a target weight, the idea is to come in under that target weight regardless of muscle to fat ratio. I'm sure he'd have got away with it if he looked muscly. Unfortunately he looked fat. He displayed massive roundness on his Hull introductory photo which seems to suggets nowt has changed. Again unprofessional, if you turn up fat just admit it rather than doing an Eric Cartman.

I'm pretty sure he gave an nauthorised interview last year where he was openly critical of the manager. Unprofessional.

He also pooed in Moussa Sissoko's sock, spunked without permission on Obertans head, and flashed his pee pee at the training ground canteen staff.

We don't need him, Rolando is already 10 times the player and more.

So the entire idea of him being unprofessional is because you are calling him fat?! To be honest, if Pardew's made it explicit he won't be playing, I'd not see a reason for him to be in shape. So you're just guessing at the reason being he loves a cake more than playing football <ok>

<laugh><laugh><laugh><party>.

Redknapp should have kept his mouth shut, instead of stoking the flames.

Personally, I'm bored to f****** death with both HBA and Pardew.
One has gone and hopefully the other will follow swiftly.
Both unprofessional as far as I'm concerned, neither of them are bigger than the club although both seem to think they are/were indispensable.

Professional football players work for the management - If I don't get on with my boss and do my job I'll get sacked. HBA, regardless of what's gone on, has pissed off Pardew and can't get in the side despite his "talent". In black and white terms, paid lots of money, not getting anything for it, sod off. Watch me do nothing all day and tell my boss I'm really happy and love working here, he'll quickly tell me to sod off too.

Greetings fella.
I bet Cairo is canny hot right now.

Benni is a fat lazy bastard and Pardew is a gobby, self serving hoop licker.

Eventually both stains will be wiped from our club Y-fronts.

I would like to hear what Harry has to say when Colback writes his letter to the Sunderland fans

Have you written your letter to the Sunderland fans yet Fredor, following your defection over to our forum?

Hasn't Ben Arfa always looked slightly on the plump side?

Not to question those who saw with their own eyes, but any idea what could be the reason for Ben Arfa adamantly refusing to cut his own weight, if he was obviously out of shape to perform in the league?

Any self-respecting player should know that if he wants to play in the league week in week out, he would have to get himself into shape for that. I'm not sure I understand what is Ben Arfa's beef in this situation that he has gotten himself into with Parpoo
